How do you...

make spaghetti?

Re: How do you...

  • I made it last night. Just boil the noodles in water with a little EVOO & salt. I brown the hamburger and simmer it in my grandma's homemade canned sauce.

My mom does the same without adding anything to the boiling water and uses a packet of dry seasoning powder to make her sauce.

My dad's mom makes hers with hamburger & sausage meatballs.

My MIL doesn't add any meat to her's, just sauce and noodles.

So anyway, everyone appears to be different on this basic dish and I'm just wandering how you all do it.

  • I make it the exact same way as you do,  but i add a tablespoon of sugar into the sauce, as my grandma used to. I use Ragu.

  • big pot of water, add salt when it boils, add pasta & stir a lot, then like once a minute until you can just baaarely see a tiny white dot in the middle when you bite a strand.  I break the strands in half because it makes it easier for Joaquin to shove it in her mouth.

I make a huge batch of sauce like every 2 weeks and freeze it in 2c containers.  When we're having pasta for dinner I defrost it, then nuke it in a bowl. To serve I separate out the sauce into separate bowls and toss with the noodles as I pull them out with tongs (I only use a colander for stuff like mac & cheese or pasta salad).

Only I could write a novel on spaghetti, seriously.

  • If it's just for me I prefer spaghetti with just butter and parmesan. DH hates it this way, so we usually make it plain and add our own toppings (alfredo sauce, Prego, cheese, etc).

  • I never cooked spaghetti in my life and I don't don't how my husband makes it. I know he makes some awesome meatballs though.

  • I usually just boil some water with some EVOO and salt and boil the noodles in there.  While that's happening I brown the ground beef in a pan.  Then I strain the noodles when they're done, dump in the meat, and dump in a jar of sauce.  I've made my own sauce a few times but DH really likes Ragu so I just myself some time and use that.  When I'm feeling fancy I'll make baked spaghetti and layer it in a pan with pepperoni and cheese.

  • I only make spaghetti when I'm making it mixed with scrambled eggs. When I boil it it's only with a bit of salt.

I think spaghetti is too messy to eat that's why I like other types of pasta (rigatoni or those spirals). However, JT might like spaghetti so maybe I'll give it a shot!

I svck at sauce - but recently I found a recipe on these San Marzano tomatoes that you just put EVOO, garlic, and I add onions and it makes this chunky sauce.

Never made meat-A-balls. I'm married to an EYE-talian so I should learn!!
