Mic Key button is coming out, what to say to my daughter?

Hi Everyone! My daughter will be getting her mik-key button removed in 3 weeks.  Any tips of how to ease her anxiety about this? She's 3 1/2 and has been tube fed since birth.  She hasn't used it since Sept. and is doing great. In the past when I would tell her that one day she won't have her button anymore, she gets sad and says she doesn't want anyone to take her button.  It's a part of her and I get that and I'm a little anxious too.  Her doctor suggested to not bring it up until a few days before it happens.  But I don't know how to ease her and make her feel comortable that she no longer has it.  We thought of having a "Bye Bye Button Party", but then I started thinking, when should we have it? Right after they remove it??????She may not be in the mood for a party after that? We also got her an adorable sock money that has a Mic Key button hoping we could tell her she's a big girl now and needs to share her button with the sock monkey???? I don't know.....Anyways, I could go on and on...any ideas would be appreciated!

  • I have no advice as we still have our button, but I am jealous!  Good luck with the procedure and breaking it to your DD.

  • Does your hospital have a child life specialist who might be able to give you ideas to help her understand? Or is there a local Children's Hospital with one who might be able to help?
