How much does your OB charge?

We got our estimated bill for my OB to deliver my baby. Assuming its a standard vaginal delivery, it'll cost us $3,600, of which insurance pays 80%. We'll end up paying 500 if all goes according to plan (ha...ha). It's $4,200 for a c-section.

I'm curious what other people's OBs are charging?

Edit: This doesn't include what the hospital charges. Who knows what that will be! Huh?

Re: How much does your OB charge?

  • I honestly have no idea.  All I know is I should be covered at 100% after my deductible for the hospital stay, which is $1500 (ugh).

Oh, I just looked at my insurance treatment estimator, and they state $2815 as the professional fee  for my doctor for both vaginal and C-section.  It does state it's just an estimate and actual feels may be higher or lower.

(The total with hospital stay is estimated to be $6300-$8300 for vaginal and $8300-$10,300 for c-section).

  • My OB's estimated fee for a vaginal delivery is $4,676. They are estimating my share of that fee will be $3,075 (thanks to the deductible). I'm not sure how they arrived at that figure, but nonetheless, I have to pay him $3,075 by May 30.
  • I got an estimate from my OB...if everything goes as planned and I have a regular vaginal delivery I'll be owing my OB $1500.  That's after my insurance pays 80%.

  • My OB charging $1750 to deliver my twins vaginally. I am not sure what that fee goes to if the delivery ends up being a c-section. Of course, that doesn't include the anesthesiologist, hospital, etc. That's just his fee.

My deductible is $750 and my insurance covers 80% after that, so I will end up paying just over $900 (if they behave and come vaginally).

  • Geez, those seem high...and also made me question the OB office lady's math...80% of 3,600 is 720...and they told me we'll owe 500...interesting...

  • My OB is charging $2,000 for vaginal delivery.  I have a $5,000 deductible (I am on BCBS HSA plan) and currently making payments out of my HSA account towards the delivery fees.

  • I have zero idea. I never get an itemized bill. Thus far, I've only had to pay for parking. I have pretty great insurance.

  • I never even thought about asking that question!

  • When I had my daughter 2.5 years ago, our bill for the c section/hospital stay/care for my daughter (normal, no nicu) was over $13,000. We were only in the hospital 3 days. Luckily we ony had to pay a $300 hospital co-pay since my husbands employer offers great insurance options. I am sure it is slightly higher now, maybe a little different this time around since its been a few years.

What's annoying about my OB's office is they JUST sprang this on me yesterday and said I have to start paying it now and have it fully paid by my 30th week...I'm big on planning and budgeting so to spring this up on me now was a bit odd to me. I thought it was something I would get billed for after the fact along with the hospital bill...

Some doctors don't give that out until the end or closer to delivery, regardless, maybe your insurance covers it all or a good portion of it. The delivery charge was about $2500, not including hospital stay.  My insurance covers all of it, but pays out 80% of the hospital stay.  I know the total cost of the hospital stay was waaaayy more than $2500.

  • I have a $2,500 deductible and then everything is covered 100% after that.  So, I will be paying $2,500 out of pocket for the year.

  • I have no clue about her fee but I do know that if all goes well and it's a standard delivery it's covered 100% by my insurance.  I didn't really like my insurance until I found this out!  They also cover all of my monthly visits 100% as well.  Too bad this will be the only baby on this insurance most likely.
  • With a 7 day hospital stay and a c-section, my total bill was somewhere around $35k.  After insurance, we paid about $2600 out of pocket.

  • I don't remember how much insurance covered, but we are paying about $430. I didn't think that was too bad!

Mine benefits aren't quite as good this time around, so hopefully I won't need the c-section or be there for so long.

  • Not sure about the breakdown, but according to my insurance website, my hospital charges $13K for a normal vaginal delivery. I will be responsible for $2K of that.

  • No idea -- I just pay a copay. I pay $25 per visit, $0 per ultrasound, and $200 for the delivery.
