mom's of potty trained boys

sit or stand?

DS has decided its time, he is really young, just turned 2 last month but we have been rolling with it and he has been doing fabulous...going to try undies this weekend and do the actual 3 day PTing guide this week he has been a diaper and just telling me and doing really well.....but that brings me to the big question sit or stand?

Re: mom's of potty trained boys

  • I think sit, at least that's what we do with DS but he's younger. My friend whose sons are 6 and 8 taught them to pee sitting down unless they are not at home; it's just so much cleaner. You just have to teach him to point it down!!

  • We tried sitting and it didn't work for DS.  When we showed him how to stand it became a game.  "Catch the pee - pee.  He picked up so fast and only had a few accidents.  Good luck!

  • DS has been trained since 2, and since he was on the young side we definitely taught him sitting.  We've since tried to show him how to stand but he is not buying it.  So we'll hold off...I was told by a friend that one day he will show an interest in standing like Daddy.  We'll teach him then.
  • I say stand. DS potty learned at about 2 yrs 7 mos and he has always been standing. I think it is cleaner than sitting. He can stand anywhere.

  • We taught DS to stand. We tried sitting but he wasn't having it. I just put a stool in front of the toilet and had to supervise for aim.

  • DS has been PT'd since 2 and I'm a BIG fan of teaching the standing approach. It's what he'll do when he's older, so one less transition, and I think it's a lot cleaner in general.  I'd love to be able to pee standing up! Plus, I've actually taught him to wipe afterward as well (always a nice consideration for men IMO).

  • stand.  DH insisted.  It's also easier, although you have to keep an ey on them so they don't spray the whole room.

  • Thanks ladies!!! I'll hopefully have a positive report next week.  I am going out of town this weekend and leaving DS with DH so I didn't want to officially start it now, so he is still wearing a diaper but he is telling me when he has to go 99.9% of the time....its so crazy, he started the initiative on his own...
  • C sits. We are out and about a lot and I can't imagine the logistics of getting him to stand without a stool or something in a public restroom. That and it's much easier for the whole #2 business.
  • We taught DS to sit, but at school he learned to stand.  Now that he's a little taller, he has chosen to always stand (if he's on tiptoe, he doesn't need a stool anymore with a regular sized toilet).

  • I taught DS sitting at first, and then about a week or two later he decided that it was time to learn how to stand and pee.  He now refuses to sit and pee anywhere, which is kind of a pain out in public when I'm holding DD and the toilet is too tall for him to stand.  :-P
