With DS, we waited until 13 weeks. We were aiming for at least 12, just
to make sure everything was going along fine, but then it took another
week to be able to get all the parents together at once. This time, I'll
be 11 weeks at DS's birthday. I feel like this is totally
superstitious, but do you think that week or two makes it too early to
share the news? It would just be easier to tell everyone when we're
already gathered rather than making phone calls two weeks later.

Re: When will you make the big announcement?
I went for the first u/s yesterday, and everything looked good. I go in next Fri for an exam. Not sure if they'll be able to hear the baby's heartbeat with the doppler yet at that point bc I'll be 10 weeks.
I'm only 5w so no hb yet with the t/v. We haven't told anyone at all yet, and are both very nervous so we're not telling until 12w. If they do a t/v, you should be able to see the hb, no? If so, then I would say go for it and make the announcement a week early!
We're telling our immediate family this weekend. I told my sister yesterday but now I wish I would have waited. I was hoping to hear the heartbeat yesterday at my appointment. (I know it was a long shot, but I wanted some sort of confirmation there is a baby in there!)
I want to keep waiting until we get out NST scan but I don't think my sister can keep her mouth shut until then. My next prenata appointment isn't until 16 weeks.
I didn't want to yet...but DD did it for me. Never tell a 2.5 year old a secret. LOL.
Last week at 4 weeks 2 days (so like 37 seconds pregnant) we were at my inlaws house for a party and when everyone was at the table DD says out of the blue, as clear as day, "I have a brother or sister coming."
Kinda hard to cover up that one. Don't even go to the doctor for 3 more weeks!
This. We had our first u/s yesterday, so we'll tell our immediate family this weekend, but wait until 11/12 wks to tell friends, extended family and work.
~~~ EDD for Baby #2 6/28/15~~~~
We told our immediate families right away this time (wanted/needed their positive vibes after our loss in October) then told everyone else after out first u/s (over 7w).
ETA: If I were you I'd share at DS's birthday. Because you've already hit the 8w mark and saw a HB, the chance of m/c is less than 5%. Waiting until after 12w it does go down to less than 3%, but it's not a HUGE difference. I'd want to tell when everyone was together.
Make a pregnancy ticker
The plan was to wait to tell everyone until after my appt today.... but with this being the 1st child and having a small family, they all know already. My co-workers know because of my m/s.... the students are starting to guess that I am because they know me too well. The people on my street know something is up because I am not running as much. Too hard to hide. Oh well.... lets hope that this little dude goes full term and I don't have to have a bunch of awkward conversations about how we lost him/her.
I would tell when everyone is together
With DD I wanted to wait until 13w but I had a bach party at 11w and knew I would be outed then so I told my family first. This time around we will probably wait until after the NT scan. All of my family is out of state so it's easy to keep the pregnancy a secret.
This. We had our 2nd u/s last Friday and heard the heartbeat and everything looked really good so we told our families then. Since the risk is so much lower, I felt pretty confident about telling them. I'm not putting it on FB or anything like that, so as we see people we'll tell them, but it's not like I'm running out and calling everyone I know. :-) We're waiting to tell my siblings (10, 12 and 13 years older than me) until next Friday because it's my sisters birthday and I bought a onesie that says "My Auntie is Awesome" that I'm going to wrap up for her.
Good luck. Once my dad knew, game over. I ended up being so frustrated and upset about the whole situation instead of excited. I've been getting emails and facebook messages from all kinds of &*($%^# people. My dad's excuse was, "well I had to tell someone." My sister in law also took it upon herself to tell my ex and his new wife. I'm sure they were equally horrified that she would awkwardly tell them that. I emphasized to all these idiots that I only wanted my parents & siblings to know because it was so early and we hadn't had an ultrasound. Next time, I'll tell them when I'm on my way to the delivery room. Haha!
Sorry for the delayed reply. Just checked back on this today. I think we're going to announce at the party. Your numbers made me feel better.
