As I sat and looked at my 13 year old son last night, I realized how grown up he is looking already. He is tall and is going through puberty (we are starting to see bits of moustache) and a brand new fear hit me. In two years I will have a 15 year old and a two year old, I will be 37 and my hubby 40. When the 4 of us go out in public, will people suspect I am the grandmother?!!! I was a mom at 20, and my dad a grandpa at 40. Will people think my son is my daughters father????
I have to admit, I started crying. When confessing this to my son (he was concerned about my crying) he started laughing. he said "mom, I am way too young to have children!" ah my sweet niave son :-) I decided it was a good time for the safe sex talk again!
anyone else facing this?
Re: a new fear
Well this ought to help a bit.....I am 43 and will turn 44 3 mos. after LO is born. DS is 13 and will turn 14 6 wks. or so after LO (also a boy) is born. So, I'll be 44, w/ a newborn and a 14 yr. old. My husband will turn 40 in Oct. We also have a 12 yr. old son. We were laughing that we will be having one learn to walk and one learn to drive next year. OMG! Oldest DH has a mustache. My parents keep telling me he must shave it. Well hello, he is 13.....I can barely get him to brush his teeth (braces) or put on deodorant every day. I don't want to start shaving yet!!!
My sweet sister (LOL) pointed out that I will be an older mother to this LO than my Grandmother is to me. Thanks! But I don't feel old and I am suspecting that this baby will help to keep us young. We are all excited about it and I am surprised at how excited our friends and neighbors are, and not mortified like I thought they'd be.
LOL. I have to tell my son to put on his deodorant every day! as for his stache he wants to "let it grow for a while" HI-Lari-ous
at least they thought you were his girlfriend, this is actually a bit of a compliment to you :-) I am sure it mortified your son tho (it would have my son!)
A different perspective - my sister was 17 and I was 15 when my baby sister was born. Due to our slathering on of 1980's makeup products, we both looked a little older than we were - nobody ever thought we were our sister's mom or that our mom was her grandma
I have this exact fear! My DS will be 17 and my SS will be almost 20 when the little one gets here. I'm sure we will get some crazy looks and will end up with some great stories out of it. :-)
EHEHE You are not alone here....
I am 41...My Oldest will be 21 this year. (with whom I need to remind to do just about everything ..sigh) My others will be 18 and 14. It is rather interesting starting all over from scratch that is for sure. But on a good note my mother was 41 when she had me I turned out ok even tho all of my brother's and sisters are 10-23 yrs older then I am. ( I have a niece who is one yr older then I am) LOL But We are all very close and I am hoping it will be that way for this one..
Life throws us these crazy curves but it's what makes it all worth living!
