Bottle introduction
My son is 3 wks old and I want to introduce a bottle 3x per week so if I have an appt and eventually return to work, he will take a bottle. When is the best time for my husband to try to give him the bottle (would have to be between 5pm and 7 am). I assume I then pump at that feeding for the next bottle. I also planned to then nurse after the baby takes the bottle, assuming he does, to be sure to not lose supply at that feed since the pump is less effective.
From what you have heard, is 3 bottles a week enough? I despised pumping with my last child and find it a total hassle. Part of what is so great about nursing is precisely that it is easy! so I would like to pump no more than once per day and would like to store a few bottles worth of milk for emergencies.
Would love to hear how the rest of you plan to introduce a bottle. Thanks!

We started last week on her 3week birthday-- I had no idea how hard it would be! We offer the bottle when she is just waking up but not starving yet, about once a day. The plan eventually is for DH to give her one of the overnight feeds and I will pump once during the day to make up for it.
The first time we tried (with Medela slow nipple from my pump box), she was spitting the milk all over the place, so we've been going really slowly to teach her how to do it-- only 2oz at a time, and then feed her from the breast. We also got a different bottle (comotomo, they didn't have Tommee Tippee at our local baby store), which has helped a lot with the screaming and gagging.
