The ENT just called and told me Bryce has moderate sleep apnea. Last wednesday at the sleep study, he stopped breathing 5 times and had 42 instances of significantly reduced breathing. Kindof scary since he had a rough night with trying to go to sleep and then with all the monitors. I can't imagine what its like here at home. The ENT wants to do surgery asap so I have to drive to cumming for a pre-op appt tomorrow morning and surgery is scheduled at Scottish Rite for next Monday. We will have to stay at least one night in the hospital. Crossing fingers he's better by the 23rd when we leave for Disney.
Re: Sleep study results and surgery scheduled for Bryce
I'm glad you got some answers and a solution. I'm sure all will go well with the surgery and he'll be on the road to recovery in no time.
Wow--that is scary, but what a relief it will be once it is over. Hope everything goes smoothly!
Yes he is! He actually has done two sets of tubes and adenoid removal for my oldest. He's also did Bryce's ear tubes back in September. He's awesome. Not like a lot of doctors. He really listens and answers your questions. We went to him bc our pediatrician takes his kids to him and he told me how great he was. We usually see him at the Scottish rite office (we live in midtown)but he doesn't have any appts down here until march and we wanted to do the surgery asap.
Too funny then! I had just looked at all of that so that was my immediate thought. I'm glad to hear you like him so much. Our pedi recommended him too. Who knows, we probably have the same pedi! (Dr. Elliott, FTR.) A friend's daughter just had her tubes by Dr. Baktha last week and had a good experience too. I really hope the surgery goes well and you all can enjoy your Disney trip!
Good luck with surgery. Keep us updated.
We use Dr. Baktha too so I know you are in good hands.
Yep we see Dr. Elliott! Too funny! We've become good friends with Dr. Elliott and Dr. Baktha. I love Dr. elliott. We were waiting on a table at the mexican restaurant saturday night and he saw Bryce so he came out to see where I was and how things were going. I've also run into him at church a few times and he's also very nice. He's always made me feel like he cares and has calmed my nerves on more then one occasion (like when my oldest had swine flu at 8wks old).
He's always been a mouth breather and snores a lot. Over the last 6 months he has started just crying out for a few seconds thorugh out the night. He was always asleep through. When we went to disney in December, I don't sleep much while pg so I realized he would gasp right before letting out a cry. I took him to a pedi and he actually heard bryce do it while crying. He said Bryce's tonsils were very swollen and cutting off the air so he told me to go see our ENT. Really and truely, this whole time I knew something wasn't right but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. I knew when the ENT called yesterday that it wasn't good since they told me several times that it takes at least 7 business days to get the report to the doctor. It had only been 3 business days since the morning of the sleep study.

Love Dr. Bathka! So sorry Bryce has to go through all of this, but like pp said he is in good hands. I will be thinking/praying for y'all.
You know, you were probably one of the people that convinced me to go to Piedmont Pediatrics and brave all of the crowds around the hospital several years ago when researching pedis. I had wanted someone closer to Midtown, but you were right, the practice and Dr. Elliott are totally worth the extra trouble! I love that he always gives me the information that I need and doesn't talk down to me (fast, but definitely not down - lol!). He makes me feel like I really can do this whole parenting thing!
