What is your gym daycare like?

The gym that I joined when we moved to CA has what I consider to be awesome daycare.  You are allowed up to 3 hours a day, they separate the kids by age, and they will feed and change them.  This was much better than anything that was offered where we lived in NY.  I'm just wondering if this is a lot more common than I think or if it is truly a rare find.

  • We belong to a branch of the Philadelphia YMCA. We get up to two hours of child care per day. The kids are separated into age groups, but just three groups I think. There is one section for kids under one or not yet walking, another for the preschool/toddlers up to about 6ish and a back section for kids older than 6 or 7. They will change diapers if necessary and will bottle feed an infant if needed.

  • Our rec center has an amazing daycare! We get unlimited time, feed, change, play with the kids, ect.. They are very hands on with the kids and I feel 100% comfortable leaving my baby there. Oh and we live in Wyoming. They did NOT scrimp on this building when they built it a couple years ago, trust me. I've been to gyms in cities that weren't as nice as ours. I'm thankful to have such a place to go workout at.

  • I love our gym day care!! Our gym is associated with our local hospital, so there is always a nurse on staff and doctors are close by. There are two rooms - one for the babies and one for the older kids. They change the kids and feed them if you bring fooda snack. They do crafts and educational with them also. I get 2 hours a day. The day care throws holiday parties a couple of times a year for the kids - Valentines, Easter(includesan egg hunt), Halloween (includes trick or treating) and a pj and movie party at Christmas. They used to have a parents night out every month too but too many people misused it so they quit.I didn't realize until I read other people's posts on this board that most gym day cares don't change diapers.

  • Ours is up to 2.5 hours (you pay depending on how long you want them there). All ages together, but never more than 15 kids at a time (has never been full that I have known...) You bring snacks/water with you and the kids can have it when/if they want, and they will give bottles to babies. They page you if there is a poop to change - they won;t change dirty diapers (they do help older kids in the bathroom once they are potty trained). There is a closed circuit TV that you can watch the nursery while you are on the machines if you want. I really like our gym daycare - I don;t use it foe DS anymore since he is in preschool, but I will definitely be starting the baby there as soon as he is old enough!

  • Your lucky. Our gym daycare does give you up to two hours, but they don't do feedings or diapers. The two women that work there barely look at the kids, they are either gossiping, texting, or reading magazines. All the kids regardless of age, are in the same room and there is no organized activity. Needless to say, I try to go when DH is home so he can watch the kids instead. Complaints by several gym members have gone unheard.

  • We get up to 2 hours. There are two big rooms that are connected, so the kids are separated. They change diapers and bottle feed (which I have them do often since my baby is a snacker). I always send my older two with a snack, but if you come during lunch/dinner they will feed them. They do crafts, organized games, there is an outdoor playground if it is nice out, and one day a week there is a bounce house obstacle course set up. I can watch the kids in the main rooms while I am working out, which was great at first.
  • We get 2 hours for free. It's a small(er) Y with only one large room for babysitting. There are 3 or 4 women there, and usually one or two go out of their way to play with the kids, while the others usually are in their respective chairs, holding babies/toddlers. No food/drink- which is fine by me, especially since I have a kid with food allergies. They will change diapers & give bottles.

To me, it's babysitting - they're not a preschool. I don't expect anything more then what they do. If I wanted a more structured program, I'd enroll my kids in a preschool program.

  • I'm in Tampa and the gym daycare we go to gives us up to 2 hours a day.  That extra hour would be fantastic, lol.  I can't complain though since the daycare does everything yours does, which is to separate by age, feed and change.

this is the impression i got when i checked out our YMCA daycare a while ago.  i dont expect anything more than basic babysitting, but it was WAY too lackadaisical (sp?) when i stopped by.  the gate was open and i just walked right in to the play area, everyone's belongings were by the front door unprotected, nobody was watching anything... it just didnt feel safe.

  • We just have a Y membership.  We buy a card--$12 for 12 visits.  One punch per child.  All the kids are in one big room together--it is a small community.  They will sometimes give them a snack.  No drinks unless you bring them.  And they come get you when they need changed.  They can stay for up to 2 hours, and they are only open for a couple hours in the morning and then again in the evening, plus Saturday morning.
