seeing the word "crayon" in the previous post reminded me of an e-mail i sent to a few coworkers a couple weeks ago regarding bathtub crayons.
Because you guys either have a little girl, are expecting a little girl, or have a granddaughter, I wanted to let you know about something that happened to my niece recently. She is 2 1/2 years old and started having vaginal spotting in November. The pediatrician did tests and referred my sister to a child gynecologist. The gynecologist did further tests and a visual check but couldn?t find anything wrong. So this morning, my niece was put under in order to do a full exam. We were all very scared it was anything from cancer to abuse, you just never know. Instead, the doctor discovered that part of a bathtub crayon had broken off and gotten lodged in her vagina. The bleeding was a result of tearing and she was incredibly lucky to have avoided a major infection. All it takes is washing your little girl?s hair in a bath full of bubbles to not notice that she accidentally put something where it didn?t belong or scooted onto the crayon, etc.
Moral of the story, please do not purchase these crayons or if you already own them, discard them. I know it seems far-fetched in theory, but it happened to my niece and I don?t want it to happen to a child you love.
These are the crayons I?m talking about.

Re: psa: bathtub crayons
I'm sorry this happened to this little girl (your niece? not sure if you wrote the email or if it was a fwd). That stinks.
However, kids have orifices. Unless you are also going to get rid of everything in the house smaller than your elbow, it's a good idea to teach your kids not to stick anything in their various holes.

I'm glad she's alright. I imagine the not knowing was hard on everyone! Thank goodness it was something (relatively) easy to fix.
It seems like an awkward conversation to have but yes, you need to teach children not to put anything but food in their mouths! All other holes are exit only.
In the ER we see a few pediatric injuries a month from kids exploring various places with strange things... usually sharp... some biodegradable...
jillers!
I remember you from our Knot days back in 09.
Hope you're doing well.
