Northies: Please be extra careful

Has anybody seen this article.

I had no idea till I came into work this morning and my coworker said that this happened down the street from him. His wife is scared with every right. I know this happens all over but please be careful anyway.

  • Holy shnit and WTF is wrong with people?

Oh, and the other family, from December, when the mom was separated from her kids? I would have flippedthefvckout. Oh. Em. GEE.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • And now I'm posting to ask for alarm company recs. It's just me with the 2 kids so that is really scary.

AND I also think the poor robbers would be so disappointed if they broke into my home. No safe, no cash and very little jewelry.

I think what I find scariest is that they're not really breaking in. They're knocking and waiting for someone to answer the door. And it's not just women at home alone--they tied up the man and woman.

We use ADT and have been happy with them.

I know. I was just thinking "Well...we don't have a safe! What would I tell these people? Sorry, what you see is what you get?"

Eek. I don't even want to think about it. Must stop answering door when home alone...

  • The one that happened in December, the families kids go to our taekwando place. The youngest one was trying to do his self defense on the guys. :( it is so scary and if I remember from what our instructor told us, they have an alarm but it wasn't turned on...

That story is really just terrifying. I can't even imagine. Those poor kids and that poor mom, she must have been out of her mind scared.

  • I only answer the door for people I know or I'm expecting; otherwise, you're getting ignored. We use ADT and are happy with them.

  • Thanks for posting J&J. We have an alarm but DH and I are terrible about setting it when we are home. Time to put up post it note reminders everywhere.

  • Yikes!  I never answer the door, thank goodness.

I've recommended Sloan Security for an alarm system a few times, and I think several nesties use them.  PMBride2Be (if I am remembering her nest name right) suggested them to me, and I've been really happy with the service.

  • Thank you for sharing. I am horrible about answer the door - this is a much needed reminder that I shouldn't answer the door when it's someone I don't know.

  • That does it.  I'm never opening the door for those Jehovah's Witnesses ever again.

Usually when someone comes to the door and I answer it, I have the screen door locked and I talk through the glass.  But I'm sure to someone who wants my sh!t, that won't stop them.

  •  so scary.  But wasn't it mlf or someone else on this board that did NOT answer the door and some yahoos still tried to break down her door about 2 years ago?

We have a glass door, so it's hard to see who is there and NOT have them see me, so now I just talk to people through the door, ask what they want, etc.  mlf's (or whoever that was that I'm thinking about) story really freaked me out and now I always feel like I need to let people know that someone IS home in case they are looking for empty houses.

I can't imagine how scary that invasion was for the little kids - wow.

  • We leave our dog out at all times, and he will run to the door and bark every time he hears someone.

Yup that is me!  I love them - We are going on 5 years! And, if you use one of our recs, whomever you give them the name of gets a $10 credit.

  • Yes, this happened one street over from us.  It is very scary and I am home alone several nights a week.  What gets me is they seemed to have cased the houses - as they struck when only women and children are home and they knock.

I have glass cut outs as well in our front door and will be checking via the side window before answering the door.  I also have told our nanny to not answer the door no matter what unless we have told her that someone is coming.
