October 2011 Moms

What have YOU wasted your $ on for LO?

I just HAD to have the Moby.  It was when C was about 8 weeks old, and I couldn't get anything done.  I ran down to my local Tar-jay and plopped down $45.  I couldn't have purchased it second hand off of Craigslist, oh no.  Of course, I've worn it three times and each and every time he's:

a) screamed bloody murder

b) spit up all over it.  Like epic spit up.

Now it's balled up in the ottoman storage thingie.  How about you?  What has been a total waste of $?

Diapers! SO got all sorts of confused and ordered 6 months worth of size 1 diapers off Amazon. Yea, T was out of those at about 2 months. Aside from that I'd have to say a bajillion adorable hats and sunglasses that don't fit and shoes that don't stay on his feet.

If you are interested in selling them I would be glad to waste my money on them :)

We love our moby we do not leave the house without it!

The biggest waste we have are little shoes. She could never fit her feet into nb shoes or socks so they are just sitting in her drawer.

So far the crib has been a waste as well as the glider.  I've probably wasted a bunch on little things that I still probably don't know I even have.

  • Ugg Boots.  Really? Was I nuts to think an infant would be able to keep them on?

...I did trade them in for Ugg walkers for next year...I can't be stopped!!

  • 0-3 month clothes.  DD was bigger than DS at birth and wore them longer than DS did.  DS is now growing out of 3-6 month stuff and he's four months today,  EEK!

  • The moby- loves the bjorn hates the moby. Oh and the crib tent to keep the cats at bay. We installed it but she sleeps with the door closed. Duh. And the bassinet. She has never used it.
  • Baby shoes and hats. He is a fatty and has some major crankles and foot fat so shoes are always too tight and small. He's fat but he has a tiny head (weight and height 95th percentile, head in the 20th percentile), so all his hats are too big and fall over his eyes, which makes him scream. I have one hate that actually fits and doesn't cause a meltdown.

I forgot about the bassinet. First ds had one and slept in it for a long time, so I had to have one this time to. Ds2 hated that thing with a passion, I don't think he slept then more then 10 minutes in it ever. The first month he slept in bed with us and then he moved him to his crib. Total waste!

  • Those small receiving blankets.  They are ridiculously small.  We use them on the changing tables in public restrooms.

  • The bedding and matching mobile (~$200).  I should have thought out his room a little more, and his mobile has been replaced by the fisher price projection mobile, much more entertaining!
  • The cradle was the first thing we purchased but DS has been in it only 2-3times max..total waste. And shoes..those tiny cute little shoes..m planning to frame them all & a whole bunch of 0-3clothes..some of them still have a tag hanging around them!!

The moby! I bought it only for like 30 dollars and had my mom ship it to me. My probably is that I'm so petite that I look like a ball of fabric ... Too much fabric not enough me ...then  by the time I get him into it, he wants out.

Then of course my husband bought a Chicco carried for himself that he has used once!

Along with clothing, the swing which he hates,, I have a playpen that has yet to be used since our apartment is the size of a shoe box! A zillion different types of cradle cap crap  and creams,

  • Nothing....I learned my lesson the first time around. I was nervous the Ergo was going to be a waste but luckily he likes it.

  • An expensive cradle from BBB. I wish I had gotten an inexpensive bassinet since his feet hang out of the side & he's going to his crib now.

Onesies....he hates them. Should have gotten a bunch of side snap t-shirts & more sleepers.

We have a Beco we've never used but DH keeps saying he's going to... yeah, right!

Don't count the Ergo out just yet!  We got ours when DS was 6 months and used it until he was 2.  There will be times you will be out and LO will not want to be in the stroller...it can be a huge lifesaver.  It's more for the older/heavier kid than the infant, IMP

My waste of money was the Moby and the RnP.

  • The glider. We bought a really nice one before DS was born and I think it's been used less than 10 times. It is now a stuffed animal/random toy holder.

This exactly! I actually borrowed the Ergo from someone before I even bought it. I definitely learned my lesson with DD.

His bedding. It cost $600! DS loves to sleep with his head against the bumper so I have to take it out. He currently is sleeping in his cradle and that bedding was $150 but we were able to keep the bumper on up until a couple of weeks ago so at least we got some use out of it.

Wow- I don't think I spent that much on everything combined!

The worst for me were socks and hats- none ever fit him right.

  • Arms Reach co-sleeper
    2 different slings

And of course there are several other things given to us that he hates.

  • DS hates hats! He screams everytime we try to put one on, yet everytime I see an adorable hat, I think maybe this one he will like and I buy it!

  • A bunch of size small swaddle mes and swaddle pods.  We had a couple LO liked right after birth, but and he ended up peeing through them at so we went and bought a bunch more. But he we got better with the leaking diapers so some of them were hardly ever used.  We did the same thing with other items where we bought a lot so we didn't have to wash them constantly, like bottles for the couple feedings a day I am not home, that we just have more than we'll actually use.

Our moby wrap was sort of a waste too because it gets so hot, and it didn't work well for allowing my husband to study with LO strapped to him.  I'm hoping I'll use it more in the early spring outside because it's easier on my back than the Beco Gemini.

DH was all about getting her shoes.  They are a pain to put on and keep on.  Wore then 2 times.  T barely likes socks, she always rubs them off while in her swing

  • NB socks (which never really stayed on my daughter's feet...either my daughter has REALLY big feet or they make NB socks so small that they are useless) and receiving blankets. I have some A&A blankets that I use to swaddle. I have used the receiving blankets only maybe 2 times.

After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011!
