Cloth Diapering

Day Care and sanitation

If you use day care, how do they handle your dirty diapers?

I'm looking for a day school for my son in the fall and I am not having much success finding a place that I feel comfortable with and that is open to CD.

From what I have gathered, a lot of people have to use separate covers and wet bags for each change. Does that hold true for you?

Where do they store your dirty diapers during the day?

TIA

  • Where is the hanging wetbag going to be kept? In the classroom?

  • My daycare doesn't require a separate bag for each diaper.  I send a day's worth of diapers each day in clean PlanetWise wet/dry bag.  They put all the dirties in the bag and I think it stays in his cubby with all his other diapering supplies.  I take that bag home at the end of the day.

Pretty simple process.  I think I'm the first CDer there and it was easy to work out the system.

  • not sure about cd but i do know that with disposable diapers they have to wrap each one in a bag and then toss , so i would think the same kinda applys
  • We have to have a hard sided container. So I purchased a miniature step trashcan and use the Kanga Care wetbags that are more cylindrical than square.

  • Our zippered hanging wet bag is hung from the diaper shelves. I bring it home daily to wash.
  • Each state has their own laws about this and then each day care adds their preference.  The kindercare I looked at said that I need a covered bucket that they can put the one large wet bag in and they'll dump the diapers in the bag/bucket combo as they change the baby through the day.  Funny that all the centers made a point of telling me they won't wash the baby's diapers.  Never occurred to have anyone but us wash the kid's diapers.

  • I bring a large wet bag for each day, and then I rotate them as they get washed at home. I'm not sure where they keep it, but they do have a diaper station in the back that they keep all the other things.

In Texas, the laws say that they have to have a separate cover for each change. I didn't find any standards regarding storing the diapers. This could be incorrect, but it's the best info I could gather.

  • in MA, there needs to be a plastic container with a lid for the dirty CDs. so, i send a rubbermaid container, and then put all the clean diapers in her wet bag, which they hang at the diaper changing station. they've never had a problem with them!!
