How to get vomit smell out of carpet

DD's room smells awful after last night's projectile vomiting episodes. We've already washed everything from her bed in hot water, but the carpet is what's still smelling (I think). Any suggestions for how to get the smell out? I can hardly stand to go in there. Ick!

  • We have had good luck with Bac-Out.  Hope that your little one feels better!!

  • we've had an open box of baking soda going in the bathroom which seems to be helping, but haven't dealt with carpet (yet).  G/L.
  • Vinegar and water works as well for smell but a good carpet cleaning will help with stains/discoloration which may eventually happen.

  • I remember reading about a concoction with vanilla extract. On my phone but try googling, pretty sure it will come up.

    omg. :(

  • Vinegar in a spray bottle always works for us. Call back the carpet people and make them a deal - Ask for what you want and see if they can do it "I just need you to come back and clean this one room. I'll pay you $30. Come by whenever"

  • This might sound weird, but we use an enzyme cleaner called Nature's Miracle on doggy accidents.  I discovered by accident (pun intended) that it also works well on dog vomit.  I would imagine the enzymes are similar.  Not sure how it might do on kid vomit, but if nothing else works, you might try it. It's not cheap, but it can be purchased at petsmart or petco.  It does a great job removing stain smells and discoloration. Just let it soak for a while and before blotting.
