I would do what you can to keep lines of communication open unless he becomes a problem/bad influence. Maybe someday he'll do a complete 180 and want to have a relationship with your child. Probably not, but at least you'll know (and your child will know) that you did what you could.

You are only responsible for YOUR relationship with your child. Lots of kids grow up with a mom only and turn out to be fantastic, warm, loving people. Be a great mom, that's your only job.

Giggle, snort! But ditto. If he doesn't want to be involved you can't make him... don't waste your time.
I cautiously say move on. Be sure not to let the kiddo grow up knowing how upset you are b/c they'll likely feel it's their fault (I know I did).
I'd keep trying every so often, but don't focus on it and have a healthy relationship with your kiddo instead.
