Pregnant after a Loss

Please recommend your face wash

My face is a terrible mess lately. I have never had problems with breakouts or anything even as a teenager.  Just random Zits here & there.

Lately, I go from being super oily to super dry. Mainly my cheeks are dry & my t-zone will be oily & making me break out. I have no clue what to use. The Aveno that I normally use has things in it that are not good at this stage in the game.

I was thinking maybe Dove bar soap?  Not sure if that will dry me out more on my cheeks though.

TIA!

Re: Please recommend your face wash

  • Olay daily cleaning scrub or really anything they have. I find it to be mild yet effective. Add in a clay mask 1-2 times a week for the t-zone.

I have heard of Cetaphil, where do you get it?  Usual places like CVS?

I have super sensitive skin & I think I recall someone saying that it was a good option for me.

Excellent! Thank you! I remember seeing that one around as well, I will need to look into the fragrance level & go from there. I used to love Proactive, but the price was too much & there were just so many steps.  Stick out tongue

  • Don't use ANYTHING with salicylic acid in it during pg.

I have had problem skin my whole life thanks to PCOS, so I've been around the block with pretty much every product. Honestly, the best thing for your face is to only wash it with face wash every other day and use warm water twice a day, pat dry, then use moisturizer. Moisturizer is your best friend in the whole world. People think that drying out the zits is the best way to go, but it also dries out the skin around it which makes your face produce more oil, and the vicious circle continues.

The moisturizer that works best for me is the Dove full moisture. For the face wash I use the Clean and Clear pineapple enzyme fruit face wash. It's got real pineapple and strawberries in it, though, so watch out for allergies. It's not harsh, it smells great, and I've noticed a vast improvement in my skin since using this combination.  HTH!

Thanks! The Salicylic Acid is why I stopped using the Aveno. I couldn't remember the name of it until you said it. So thank you!! I will definitely keep an eye out for that.

Warm water is what I used this morning & typically used dove body wash on my face when I shower. I think that is what might me causing the issue.

I need a good Moisturizer as well so I will definitely be looking into the Dove you recommended. I have always been a Dove girl due to my skin issues.

    Thank you!!

  • I use proactive cleanser in the morning(the cleansers dont sit on your face long enough to get into your bloodstream) and at night I use a Clarins cleanser for oily skin...Im super oily all the time.  I use the Proactive toner day and night but I dont use the lotion anymore.

Hope you find something that works for you, my skin got really horrible when I was pregnant with my son.

  • I've been using Clinique moisturizer (in the yellow pump bottle) and Liquid facial soap for years and have never had an issue. I think they have a version for combination skin, which it sounds like that's what you're dealing with. Right now it's clinique bonus time at Bloomingdales so you get a (really nice) free gift with purchase.  I actually just bought more of both to get the free gift today.Wink

I used to use Clinique all the time & love it.  Their make-up is the only kind that doesn't make me break out.  Now I am going to see what their free gift is.  LOL!  is it bad that that would be a selling point for me?  Embarrassed

Haha! Not at all, I actually WAIT for bonus time to get my moisturizer and face wash.  I figure I'm going to use it anyway, I may as well get a free makeup bag and goodies along with it.  Then I save up the sample size stuff for when I travel and safe some space in my suitcase. I'm such an organized dork.

I love this. Face wash and moisturizer. Somehow my face can be oily and flaking at the same time. This eliminates that. It's not soap based so it's super gentle.

  • I use Cetaphil and I LOVE it.  I had a lot more breakouts in the first trimester and not being able to use my Philosophy "On a Clear Day" was driving me nuts.  Cetaphil is non-drying and won't clog pores.  In addition it's not expensive (which I like).

I LOVE my Philosophy face wash.  It's called Purtiy, and it's super gentle but works as good as more harsh cleansers that I've used in the past (Neutrogena Foaming Anti-Stress/acne Cleanser).  I also use Philosophy's Hope in a Jar moisturizer.  Both of these Philosophy products have given me great results.  I still get a pimple here and there, but not like a few weeks back.  They're a little spendy, but definitely worth the cost.  Hope that you find something that works.

Also, from what I've read on salicylic acid, the stats about it being harmful to baby are regarding ingested quantities, not topical use.  But it's best to be safe.
