Cloth Diapering

CD registry help, please?

So, my family wants to throw me a mini-shower type thing. They're calling it a "disposables" party (as in diapers, wipes, baby wash, etc), but they also know I want to switch to cloth this time to save money. I've made up a little online registry of all CD's and CD accessories, but I'm kind of unsure how many brands (and how much from each brand) I should register for. So far I have some from Kawaii Baby, Rumparooz, and Blueberry because they were all recommended by my CD friends. I'm not sure if I'll like AIOs or prefolds better, so I have a mix of both, which I feel good about. I'm more worried about the brands. I'm terrified that if I register for/receive too much in one brand/style and I hate it, then I'll be stuck with it. Any advice for me?

Here's my registry, is there anything you think I'm missing? Anything you think I should have more or less of? Any other brands you think I should put on there? I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you SO much!

ETA: I moved the registry to Amazon because I think it'll be much easier for people to navigate. It's more familiar than Wishpot. Here's the new link, and I added stuff based on people's suggestions.

  • I'm by no means an expert since I'm still pregnant, but I didn't see any newborn sized diapers on your registry. Are you just using disposables until the one sized diapers fit? If so, then you might specify that you want that size of disposable for your shower. If not, you can add some newborn diapers to the registry.

Also, I think most people recommend that you have two wet bags for home (one to wash and one to use) and two smaller ones for the diaper bag. Finally, do you want any cloth wipes or cloth friendly diaper rash cream? Those items could both work with the theme of your shower. :)

  • I don't have any newborn size diapers because most of what's on there is all one size, said to be used from birth to potty training. I know they make smaller ones, but I thought those were for preemies? Will the OS diapers not work for a newborn? (My son was 7lb13 when he was born and he was 4 weeks early. I have a feeling this one will be big too.) If that's the case then I will probably use disposables until the OS diapers fit.

I actually already have a couple wet bags for the diaper bag, but thanks for the tip on having a second one for home. :)

I didn't even realize there was such a thing as cloth friendly diaper rash cream (clearly I still have lots to learn...thankfully Im not due until May). What is it?

Thank you again so much for your help, I really, really appreciate it.

  • The cool thing about CDs is that if you hate something, you're really not stuck with it. You can sell or swap for something you do like. Or hold on to it and see if it works for a subsequent baby (or a friend's baby).

  • The Rumparooz may fit from birth, but the other OS probably won't.(One size is kind of a misnomer for CDs...usually they're either a bit on the small side like RaRs and may not fit til potty training, or they're on the bugger side and won't fit at birth.)

    Snappis for your prefolds?
Wipes? Wipe concentrate if you don't want to use plain water?

  • Your registry looks similar to mine. I have used Kawaii's with my LO before and I really like them. Pockets and prefolds with covers. You could also request gift cards or cash for when you figure out which system works best for you. I requested about 2 dozen prefolds and at least 12 covers. THis way you can at least count on them fitting baby well. in the beginning. Re-sale for diapers on line are really good. Especially in barely used condition.

    Hope This is helpful.

  • I'm going to just tell you what I, personally, would change. Feel free to take it or leave it.

2 snappis is plenty to start

1 bottle of wash is plenty to start.

The mix of diapers looks pretty good, but most won't fit for 1-3 months. Add some Kawaii Pure and Natural or Little Bamboo, and some XS covers from somewhere else.

You won't need 12 covers if you snappi - the 6 you've got on there is lots.

Thank you. This is really helpful.

Looks like Kawaii is out of the Pure and Natural until the end of March. How many of the little bamboo ones should I put on there? Also, is there a brand you'd recommend for XS covers (preferably with snap closures)?

  • Thirsties Duos are good covers - size 1 will take you from newborn to 6 months or so.

You'll need about 24-30 newborn diapers if you want to wash every second day. That can include prefolds and covers, but it's nice to have a few pockets or AIO for the middle of the night. I'd register for 6 or so? They're cheap!
