Apple's pedi told us to go ahead and start cereal at 4 months even though she doesn't normally recommend starting until 6 months, I wasn't sold so I got a second opinion from another Dr in the same office, he agreed, they both say she is showing signs that she is ready.
I started A on cereal at 4 months because that was the recommendation at the time so I know it's safe to do but now that the recommendations have changed I'm not sure if I should listen to the Dr's or wait. Apple is healthy and her weight is fine, she eats a lot, sits supported, has good head control, and is interested in what we eat.

Cautiously optimistic.
I am not for listening to doctors 100% of the time, but if she is showing readiness and interest, I would try it.
FWIW, the docs where I work say 4-6m (we split the difference and went for 5m.)

I was thinking this too, cereal seems like just a filler.

Our Dr. is Indian and very modern and I was apprehensive when he told us to start the girls on cereal at 4mo. He was saying he just went to a conference and AMERICANS are very strict about food and we are very late in starting our children on food. He said he would not recommend every baby staring but given that the girls are showing signs of being ready we can try it and if not we can discontinue. So i thought HMM. We tried and they were in to it. It pretty loose cereal at first we did 4 day intervals and change the consistency and they only took like 2 -4 bites. There is a whole new methodology of feeding children BABYLED who knew ( i certainly did not )
have fun with it its so exciting to do food with our girls . we make their food so if you have any questions hit me up.
