Has anyone else experienced this during their pregnancy? I always drink a ton of water with meals...but now that I'm pregnant I have found that if I drink too much water while eating I get really bloated an hour later and my stomach gets distended to the point where I'm in pain (okay that was one night and Gas-X and tums helped). it was so weird because my stomach felt all stretched.
All of the research I have done suggests to drink less water (duh) while eating but that's so difficult and it annoys me since you're supposed to drink plenty of water while pg. I feel like I can't win! Sorry to whine, just want to see if this has happened to anyone else?
Re: Drinking Too Much Water?
It might not be that you are drinking too much, but that you are drinking too much with your food. As your uterus gets bigger, it is going to compress other organs. There may not be enough room in your tummy for the food and all that water.
I have found that it helps me to use smaller plates to I don't eat too much at any one sitting. Lately I have been eating off one of those cake sized paper plates. It helps me remember to eat a smaller amount more often.
I have no idea if any of that helps. I'm sorry that you have been feeling yucky after eating/drinking and I hope that you find a solution that works for you!
Somewhere out here on the interwebs is a graphic that shows how your stomach, lungs, etc. all get moved, compressed and generally squished as the baby and your uterus grow. It's insane/cool and explains why you can't eat/drink as much and why some women get heartburn.
Post-partum it is entirely possible to drink too much water, some moms go overboard w/ water consumption while trying to establish breast-feeding and over consumption of water can actually backfire and cause issues w/ milk production.
Really neat illustration:

Whaaat?! How come throughout all of my BF research before I had DD, I never came across this?! I POUNDED back that water, I drank about 120oz or more while pregnant and kept that up post-partum. I also didn't know that being sick could affect your supply, which also happened to me PP.
Yep- according to the LLL that was about 40oz too much per day-
"Drinking more than 80 ounces of water a day, according to research done by the La Leche League, reduces potassium levels which in turn has a negative impact on a woman?s milk supply."

Sigh, hindsight. For #2, at least I know.
