what thermometer do you use?

I hadn't really thought about it but needed to use one last weekend when Laci had a stomach bug. I used the digital one that came in the safety/grooming kit but am wondering about it now. I guess could have been a good reading as it gave me 99.1 and 99.2 (rectal) and lower (never the same reading) but this morning it gave me 97.2 on me so it made me curious.  Just wanted to see what ya'll used.  This is the kit that we have.

But what do you have and do you recommend it?

    I just use a cheap digital rectal one and it's been fine. 97.2 doesn't seem strange to me.

    When I was charting, my temp was in the 97's a lot.

    so you used it orally after she used it rectally?  Ick!

    FWIW, we have an exergen temporal one and a vicks rectal one.  if the temporal scan shows something off, then we do a rectal temp.

    Thermometer covers were used each time.

    We had a vicks temporal first and i hated it.  Always gave weird temps.  We just bought an exergen temporal at my pedi's rec and I like it a lot.

    I thought that too.

    My posts never come out in print as they do in my head....no proofing when my head is already clogged. Lol

    I have an Exergen forehead one, a digital that came with the grooming kit, and a Vicks rectal one.  I've used all of them except the rectal one, which I probably won't use unless absolutely necessary but I'm glad I have it on hand.

    Ditto the comment about 97 not being a weird temp.

    Ditto.  But we haven't done a rectal since well before her 1st birthday.  Now a days, if something looks off we take her axillary temp with a cheapie oral one.
