Ready for another baby?

I've been wanting to start trying for another baby for a few months now. Ive been trying to wait since i'm finally getting married early june, weve been trying to plan for the last five years. So glad its finally getting closer. I think we'll start trying in April or May. My fiance has been talking about it for about 6 months now so i know he's ready.

I go for my regular check up thursday so i'm planning on talking to my ob about if he thought it was safe to start trying since i had a c-section with complications healing. Any questions specific i should ask?

What helped you decide to start trying for another baby?

Re: Ready for another baby?

  • I have been asking myself if we are ready too.  If you figure out how to know, let me know!  I didn't have any complications from my c-section, but the Dr said he would like me to wait 2 years before birthing another baby.  So, he said we could start trying again this spring if we want.  The thought of having another c-section scares the bejeebus out of me.  I have to be imagining it worse than it actually was, right?

My OB said to wait 18 months so i was thinking wed be fine. My c-section wasnt that painful i didnt take any pain meds after the surgery. I really wish i could have the next one vaginally but my lo was stuck and she was only 6lbs 8oz. so i wont be able to try for a VBAC. My only problem with my c-section was a week after i was released actually christmas eve morning it started bleeding and i couldnt get it to stop ended up going to the ER and having to deal with that for almost 3 months before the bleeding finally ended. My ob said it doesnt happen very often and wouldnt be likely to happen again which is the only thing that scares me about having another a c-section because that part was no fun. I really missed out on so much with my lo the first few months because i wasnt allowed to bend.

  • I knew I wanted another LO because I wanted them close in age. And then I think I was nuts now that I am in it and am getting nervous!!! I, too, had a c-section and it was so freaking painful - again, a few rocks loose over here I think. But this is awesome and from all of the 2U2 mom's I've talked to on TB or IRL all say that it becomes wonderful!!

I feel the same way.  My c-section went really well, easy recovery, and hardly any scaring.  I had DD on a Monday night and left the hospital Wed at lunchtime.

My Dr also never said anything about waiting a certain time before having another LO, so that thought never crossed my mind when we were deciding.

  • Our original plan was to wait to have LO #2 after DH deployed and got back. We found out that his deployment would be a lot later than we imagined, so we decided to go ahead and try now. My first pregnancy was really rough on my body so we knew that it would be a bad idea for me to be pregnant without him home. This way, he will be home for the entire time and also for part of LO's first year. If we had waited, our LOs would be almost 5 years apart and we knew we didn't want them that far apart. I'm really excited about 2U2 and look forward to our girls growing up together and being great friends.

  • There's never a perfect time for anything, just do what you want to do and everything works itself out as you go! We weren't trying for another one (Even though I've been wanting another for months, baby fever never went away!) but we weren't preventing either (there's a whole background story regarding health issues blah blah), but we're very happy and excited! I'm trying not to think about the implications of 3 under 2, even though people just LOVE reminding me of how "crazy" they think I am, they aren't me.

My first thought in reading your story, lets say you get pregnant right away and end up in your first trimester during your wedding. I wouldn't want to have morning sickness and fatigue for that, I'd want my whole head in the wedding business! But if you don't get m/s and all the other good stuff, my point is moot. Just saying.

All of this is my thoughts towards your circumstances.

We never prevented after DS was born. We loved every minute of it and wanted another one right away. Totally different story once we had two. It's just a whole nother ball game. It's still crazy but they enjoy eachother so much, and play together so well! We started trying again when DD was about 7 months. We weren't sure if we wanted a fourth so we decided not to make the 3rd much further apart than DS & DD are.

I was thinking about this too.

My first pregnancy i didnt have morning sickness or anything couldnt even tell i was pregnant. I know they say every pregnancy is different so this time around it could be the complete opposite, which is kinda what i'm afraid of and hoping for at the same time. I didnt gain any weight with dd she never moved i didnt look pregnant even on the day i had her so i'm hoping for the opposite of certain things i guess. I always missed not being able to feel her kick and move around, the only thing i ever felt was her hiccups.

  • In terms of what to ask your OB, I'd just say that you were thinking about TTC soon, and is there anything that looks suspect physiologically that you should wait on?  Trust your OB to give you a straight answer.

As to when to start trying, I'm no help because we're going with a totally analytical approach.  Surprise, right?  We're waiting until LO turns 3 and then we're assessing based on finances (namely, whether we can afford to move and continue our regular contributions to our 401K and LO's college fund plus an additional college fund).

  • mine never told me I had to wait, but I did have a totally routine delivery and few issues during pregnancy.  Then again, I am old (37) so he probably felt like if I wanted more, I better be getting on with it (and it's a concern!)
