Potty Training

potty training: backwards progress?

My DD was potty trained just after she turned 2. She took to it really well, maybe 5 accidents total (day and night) in the first 2 weeks and that was it. Fast forward to almost a year later, and the past 3 evenings she has wet herself on the way to the potty. Its frustrating because she takes herself to the potty (like we supervise, but she knows when she has to go and will tell us, for a good few months now we've been doing it like this) but we saw the signs right before each accident.

ME-  "DD lets go potty, you look like you need to try"
DD- "no mommy. i dont need to" and she will start to cry if I make her go and try anyway.

Well, within 5 minutes of that, she will start running to the potty and pee herself on the way. Im just like seriously? We've been doing this how long with no problems?? It just seems really random for her to regress. Well, there's my vent and I'm hoping its just a quick phase.

Re: potty training: backwards progress?

  • Is she too busy playing or distracted? DS has a lot of problems of not wanting to stop, but he is getting better.  I also give him a 1-2 minute warning that we are taking a potty break and emphasis that we will be right back to play with XXX.  He seems to think that play time/ tv time/ whatever ends and we can't go back.

We do have some crying but I just figure that is the I don't want to of a 2 year old.
