I guess I'm just stressing out a little and want reassurance. I realize a u/s is the only way to know if a person is carrying multiples or not, but I can't help but ask. I just got a positive HPT this morning at 7 DPO. My first 2 pregnancies, the earliest I got a positive was 10 DPO. From your experience, did DPO and getting a positive seem to correlate at all with having multiples? TIA and I'm sorry if this is a stupid thing to ask.

Thankful for every day
it depends on when implantation happens - whether or not you get an early + HPT. my twin pregnancy was a later implantation than most im sure of it.
with my son i got a + HPT (frer - which i assume that's what you are using to get such an early positive) at 9 dpo. however i didnt test at 8dpo - maybe there would have been a squinter.
with this pregnancy, it probably would have been 10 dpo if i used frer (based on my chart and the various levels of sensitivity regarding the hpt tests i was using - i know REs would argue with me but i know im right - ive been doing this for way too long). this pregnancy is the twin pregnancy. i tested at 10dpo bc i had really bad cramps and a huge implantation dip on my chart, with a cheapie blue dye CVS test that detects 20mIU. - as opposed to frer which can pick it up at like 5mIU. it was negative. i tested the afternoon of 12dpo on frer and got a "strong" positive, went in for beta 2 hours later and it was 40. im sure something would have showed up on frer at 10dpo.
and, i had a miscarriage last january. and i got a positive on the frer at 5dpo. i know it was 5dpo because i was using ovulation kits and charting. i also had implantation bleeding (bright red btw) at 4dpo that cycle. (the only time i have had implantation bleeding is when i have miscarried) so, even though i had the early positive, didnt mean i had extra hcg or anything like that. - and sometimes i wonder if the very early implantation was bad anyways.
with my chemical pregnancy in june, it was positive on the frer at 7dpo after i had tested out of the trigger shot.
so really, it just depends on when it implants.
Thanks for the responses, ladies.
No, I didn't do IF treatments and I would be right there with you except that we only had sex on CD 7 and then not again until CD 16 which is the day before my said ovulation day. So at the most, I would be 1day off.
It was actually a Wondfo test (actually 3 of them) this morning, and then I did a frer this afternoon.
unless you used ART you can't be 100% sure of O date....
and even if you are - you have an early implant - that's what it means - not multiples.
i used clomid/IUI and tested from day 7dpo/iui until i got a bfp.
With my singleton i had a bfp at 11dpo/iui. With the twins I had it at 12dpo/IUI... so it was one day later than with my singleton... and my betas were similar, too.
congrats on your pg!
BFP at 12 DPO = singleton, BFP at 8DPO = twins, BFP at 9DPO = singleton.
As you can see my 3 BFPs were all over the place and the twins weren't too far off my current singleton.
got my BFP with triplets in the afternoon of 10dpo (that morning, I got a BFN.)
good luck and congrats!

My blog * We made the national news!
My BFP with my daughter was 10dpo, with the twins I was negative then but positive at 13 dpo. With Emily my first beta was 54 and with the twins 891. Mathematically, 891 would have been a BFP earlier, but it wasn't.

...well...if you werent using OPKs and charting then you really have no idea what dpo you are...sorry (unless when you say your "said" ovulation day you did use an OPK and charted). you dont always ovulate on the same day every month. so again, unless you were being monitored, and/or using OPKs AND charting to confirm the thermal shift, there really is no way to know for sure that you are in fact 7dpo. even then you can be off by a day. my ovulation was off by a day and i was being monitored and did an IUI.
and to a PP - 7dpo is early but it's definitely not unheard of if you are using frer. wondfo i dont have experience with. frer detects as low as 5mIU. i know bc when i had a miscarriage i was using the frer to see when the hcg was gone and i still had a + and i went in to get my blood checked (bc i was getting frustrated) and the level was 5.1.
Thanks for all the responses! I knew it was a silly question to begin with, but I feel much better now.
ETA: Thanks for the congrats also!
I'm not sure; with my twins I didn't test until 14dpo because i was convinced I wasn't pregnant; I tested the day AF was due and only b/c I had a cold and wanted to see if I needed to be careful about what meds I took! But congrats on your pregnancy. I hope all goes well!
I got a positive result earlier than I expected with the twins (I don't even know why I took the test, I guess just hoping to see something, knowing it was too early). Hindsight, I wondered if that's why I got such an early positive, but I don't think that necessarily means anything. Hindsight being 20/20, I was also showing a little belly very early (I'm not really a big person), and I was way more tired that I ever thought possible!
Well, congrats either way!!
I didn't get a positive test until I was about 14dpo with my twins ( wasn't charting, but realized after from u/s, etc).
I was charting this pregnancy and got a positive at 9dpo. Only one baby.
U/S is the only way to tell.
