Ahhh!!! Cabin Fever!

I feel like I am dying here! I don't know if I need to find a routine or what, but I sit on the couch and nurse all...day...long... I know I am not alone and you ladies are doing the same thing, but it is killing me! I think I need to master the moby. I have been very hesitant about whipping it out thinking DS is too little (which I know he isn't, I have heard of some of you ladies having smaller babies using it).

I used to get up and make breakfast for DH and I and do household chores during the day with a nap thrown in (I worked midnights). Maybe a trip to the library, grocery store, or Walmart to break up the day.  I haven't been able to do these things due to recovery and a newborn. I have been feeling much better these past couple of days due to either getting more sleep or learning to function better with less sleep.

My dad came down today and we watched the Help, which was nice, but I was still on the couch nursing. I think I am going to go to his house tomorrow to hang out. At least I can drive again, so hopefully I can get out of the house, even if DS and I just go for a drive somewhere, anywhere!

Does anyone have any suggestions or can you tell me what you do during the day so you don't go stir crazy?

Re: Ahhh!!! Cabin Fever!

  • Get out at least once a day - I have been taking my daughter on walks since she was 1 week old. We have been lucky and the weather has been in the mid-30s each day. I just bundle her up and we go. It makes me feel better and she likes the stroller. And there is no risk of her 'catching' anything, because we're not around other people, just getting fresh air. The walks are 30-45 min and I usually go right after she eats so it doesn't interfere with feeding. If tif the sun isn't out, it's refreshing to get some air.

  • I keep reminding myself that my only job right now is to feed this baby. Everything else is gravy. Also - I am committed to napping myself during one of his stretches of sleep (typically in the morning) and to doing 1 household chore during his other sleep stretches. I try not to do so much so I don't get worn out.

Every other day or so I try to get out to run a short errand - just a run to the post office, a quick run to Wal-Mart, or the like. There is also a new moms support group that I go to once a week.

  • I hear you! I'm recovering from a c section and although I can drive in 2 weeks I'm not allowed to pick up DS's carseat for 5 more weeks so I'm pretty house bound unless DH is around, but he works a lot. We are venturing out tomorrow to get newborn pics taken...I'm super excited!

  • I got out yesterday for the first time by myself to visit a lactation consultant.  Just lifting the car seat to place it in the stroller made me really sore so I'm hesitant to go out again unless its necessary.  I've just been recording lots of tv shows to keep me occupied during the day.  It's too cold here to walk around the block so I'll gues I'll be house bound for a bit longer.

  • Yes! Get out the Moby!! It really is a life saver. Are you feeling good enough to go for a walk? The day that I was really, really, really feeling cabin fever, I took myself and the 2 kiddos to the park and it was amazing (granted, it is nice out here - not sure if it is where you live). Fresh air did us all a lot of good.

I've also been known to pack up the kids and go for a drive to Starbucks for 'me time'. When DS was a newborn (so our only child at that point), he would fall asleep and I'd just sit in the car, read a magazine, drink my coffee, etc., and it was so nice to get out of the house. Now, DD falls asleep in the car, but me and DS chat, I bring him a special treat, and I still drink my coffee and it's great.

  • I was losing my mind at that stage too.  It really helped to just go out to Target or some place like that for like an hour once my husband came home. Then when they were about 5 weeks my sister took me out to dinner while my husband stayed home with the babies. Make sure to make time for yourself or you will lose it. I almost did.
