C-section or Vbac???

I had a Csection with my first child 7 years ago. I am due in May and am able to have a VBAC but have heard about the uterine rupture and complications. I am trying to make a decision and I want to deliver VBAC instead of Csection but am a little afraid. Any advice?

    why mess up your vagina too? I still have bladder issues and probably always will. I vote save the vagina!Stick out tongue

    Check out the VBAC board.  While there is a small risk of uterine rupture with a VBAC the risk of a serious complication arising during a VBAC is actually smaller than the risk of a serious complication occurring during a repeat CS.  Also, the more sections you have the great risk of complications (especially placenta issues) in future pregnancies (if you plan on having any more kids I think that is something to really look at).  I can't rattle off any specific statistics the way some of the ladies on the VBAC board can.  Do your research and decide on what you are most comfortable with - there is risk either way, although both options are reasonably safe.  GL!!

    I wanted to try a vbac because we want another baby after this one.  Not that I can't have 3 c-sections, but pregnancies become more risky with c-sections.

    Well, my ob is very pro-vbac for me, but my baby is breech again, so another c-section it is...

    well, since your last section was 7 years ago, I think you should be ok with a VBAC. I think the closer you have them together, the more complications that can arrise.

    I have gotten opinions from several of the Dr's at my practice. My labor did not progress and didn't go well. They advised me it would be best to have another c-sec. I am going with the lower risk rather then trying a v-vac and having additional complications but that is my specific situation!

    I'm going for the VBAC and I'm so excited for it! The risk of uterine rupture is less than 1%. There is more risk for complications from a csection, which is as you know a major surgery. I personally just want the experience of having a baby vaginally, I want to go into labor on my own, I want to push the baby out and be able to hold him right away. I don't want a planned C and all the complications and recovery that comes with a C. I recommend you read a lot about it and talk to your dr/midwife. It's a personal decision.

    I really wanted to VBAC and went into labor, progressed, pushed for 2 hours, then had another c-section. I was bummed but I'm glad I tried. I really wanted that moment of "there she is!" and to have her on my chest immediately after delivery but it didn't happen. My first birth was so awful that I couldn't see the big deal about vaginal birth until I had such a better experience the second time around.

    I don't know if that's helpful but for me, even with the same result, I'm glad I tried.

    All of this! I am due in early May, and trying for a VBAC.
