Thoughts on the Maya Wrap?

I just watched some videos for the Maya Wrap.  Has anyone used it? Or are planning on using it?  It looks like the fabric would become loosened from the rings fairly easily with the weight of the baby in there.  Also, it looks like it wouldn't be that hard for the baby to slip out of, especially if the baby is wiggily.  Any thoughts or comments?  Thanks

  • I had one and it works fine.  All ring slings are constructed the same way.  The fabric doesn't loosen and no, the baby doesn't slip out.  The placement of the baby and the fabric secure them to your body.  Baby carriers are really nice and slings were often my favorite because they are small and easily portable.  If you want more structure look at an Ergo or Beco or similar buckle carrier.

  • I had an infantino carrier, DD hated it and fussed the whole time she was in it. Then got a maya wrap and she liked being in it. I got the hang of how to position the fabric under the DD and she didn't slip. It doesn't loosen much, in fact you have the take the baby's weight off the rings to be able to loosen the sling to take it off. Also the maya didn't hurt my back like the other carrier did. One other thing I liked it since it was a big piece of fabric when I wasn't using it as a sling I sometimes used it as a nursing cover or a blanket (over the car seat)

Ultimately it is personal preference. If you can try on some of the carriers you should.

  • The Maya wrap (when used properly) is an excellent and reputable ring sling carrier. I'd say it is the top brand name ring sling in terms of reptuation and quality and for good reason  That said, I do not care for ring slings. I am a huge fan of wrapping with woven wraps (as in my sig).
