All of DD's stuff was either sold or thrown away because I didn't think I would be having another, let alone 3. So what I'm asking is, is it ok to register for the 3rd baby?
Not really. A registry is not because you didnt plan and now dont want to spend money on buying what you need. It is for a shower - which is to "shower" a new mom with gifts to help for the baby.
I'm having #2 and wont have another registry or shower.

I think a shower is kind of tacky, but register all you want. I just wouldn't splatter it all over the place expecting people to buy you stuff. But you know that there are some people out there that will likely buy you something anyway (close friends, parents, etc) so I don't see the harm in registering for a FEW things. But really, no shower.
Sorry I think its kinda rude. If you wanted to register for your own personal use to keep yourself organized I don't see why not...I cringe when I hear people are having a shower for their 2nd or 3rd kids. My sister did however get a surprise shower for her third but it was a "diaper shower" so she was not registered and she didn't even know it was happening. Her friends just felt like doing it....a little bit of a different situation I guess...
Around here, a lot of second-time mamas are thrown "sprinkles," but it is not something anyone expects or registers for. I think it would be super tacky to register for a third.

Don't do it. I'm thinking about registering (this is my 2nd) just so I can get a registry completion coupon... but there's no way I'm telling anyone about the registry.
My only issue with it is that you are asking people to buy things for you that they've already bought (and you sold or threw away), assuming the gifts would be coming from family and friends that you knew when you had your first.
The showers/celebrations I've been to for 2nd or 3rd babies have been things like "disposables showers" where the guests bring diapers, wipes, toiletries, formula, etc or just a girls get together event to celebrate the new baby. This may be a regional thing, but where I live (in the South), it would be rare for someone to have a baby and not have some sort of event to either just celebrate (with food and cocktails) or shower the new mom with gifts, regardless of how many babies she's had. We're all about the events down here.
Honestly, I would go ahead and register. But I would not expect anyone to buy me a thing, nor would I even tell anyone that I had created it! I would register so that I could get the completion coupon and save myself some money.
this is what I'm doing. Momma wants her 10% completion code

THIS. if someone asks if you registered, you can tell them. but i wouldnt expect people to have another shower. i would use it more for the coupon and keeping things i want for baby in order.
For my second, I created a wish list and made it private. It was more for me to just keep track of what we needed and what we purchased already. I'll be doing the same thing for this one, but I don't share it with anyone.
No, it's not okay to register with the expectation that someone else will be buying you gifts (I don't think this is the same as creating a registry for personal use).
We moved after having DD and got rid of a lot of our bigger baby things. That's no excuse for us to expect someone else to replace them for us.

If you are pregnant with a gender that you dont already have or if there are many years between this pregnancy and your last 2 maybe you could think about having a shower. Generally after you first child though the norm is to get gently used items or splurge for the new items on your own.
I'll register, but I know that I won't have a shower for this baby (#2). I'm registering so that I can get that nice little completion discount, and so I can control myself and keep track of what I still need (borrowed some items for DD, unable to borrow them again so buying them now!). And I kinda like the freebie bags with all the coupons....I looovvveee coupons!

Re: Registry for the 3rd?
Are you actually having a shower for a 3rd baby?
I would say registering for a 3rd baby is really tacky.
I agree.
