Worried about DS's behavior

For the last 3-4 days DS has been unusually quiet  and also doesn't look happy. This morning DH was talking care of him, and then in the afternoon when he saw me he didn't even react. Not with a smile, not with a cue, not with a cry..Nothing! As if he didn't notice me. He has a diaper rush, and diaper rush cream doesn't seem to help. A friend suggested it might be a yeast infection, so I should get something for that I guess, but he does not appear to be bothered by that. Interest in his toys very little, unless I give him a cell, a camera, my lap top or keys. Not sure if he is getting sick maybe. I am a  FTM and not sure if this is normal nor what to do in situations like this. Should I start worrying about disorders or is it normal that they get some quiet days? What would you do?

Re: Worried about DS's behavior

  • I don't know anything about delays or disorders or anything(knock on wood), but I do know that I freaked out about every. little. thing that DS did when he was younger. I think it goes along with being a FTM.

Good luck and I'm sure your baby boy is fine!

  • If its gone on that long I would call the pedi, even if its just for reassurance.  Teething can start that early... is he drooling a lot?  For DD, she got an inflamed bottom with almost every tooth - one theory is that they drool more, swallow a lot of saliva and it irritates them on the other end.  I think all kiddos have quiet days but if this is really abnormal for him I'd call the pedi just to be safe.  Hope he feels better soon!

  • IMO, if he is acting "off" I'd also call the pedi. It could be teething. It could be a virus. It's worth following up on. But I wouldn't worry re: anything further at this point.

It would be different if he NEVER was a smiley happy baby and doing typical baby stuff. But this is a change and worth following up on.

  • He has 2 teeth already, but of course teething is not out of question. He is chewing on everything. He actually quite often leans his head to the right, and lifting his right shoulder. He may have some ear issue going on. More stuffy nose as well.

Thank you  ladies for your help, calling the Pedi tomorrow it is.

  • If he has clogged ears then that can really put you off.
