Minnesota Babies

City Select vs City Mini Double

Hi!

I need help!! I'm expecting baby 2 in July and am trying to decide between the Baby Jogger City Select or the City Mini Double. I have pros to cons to both! But if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it! I'm getting frustrated because I keep going back and forth between them!!! We've tested them both... Wish someone could make the decision for me! :)

Thank you!!!

Re: City Select vs City Mini Double

  • It depends on how old your older child is and what you will be using the stroller for. I think the CS is a lot more versatile. It has great versatility with the seating arrangements and is a smaller profile than the City Mini so  IMO is better for malls, crowded areas. Also, if you have a child that is possibly not interested in riding all the time and wants to walk you then aren't pushing a wide double stroller with only one child in it. If you are really only going to use the stroller for walks outside than the City Mini may be the way to go because it's cheaper and both kids have a great view. I bought the CS for mall trips, museum, zoo, etc and then also a used Bob dualie for walks outside.

  • Did you find the city select heavy to lift in and out of the car? Is it frustrating it doesn't stand on its own when folded up?

    Thanks for the information!!

  • While the City Select had a ton of seating options I thought it felt bulky and heavy.
We went with a Phil & Ted. But I've head good things about the City Mini Double too.
  • I could not live without my city select.  I absolutely love everything about it.  It's not long like a typical tandem nor wide like a side by side.  There are a gazillion ways I can seat my kids, it worked so easily with my maxi-cosi car seat.  I am used to having the kind of stroller that you have to take apart to fold, so that wasn't an issue for me.

I found it WAY easier to fold/unfold and stow than any other double I experimented with.  That said, I only tried one of the "jump seat" styles because DD hated being low and having a blocked view.  The frame isn't that heavy (27 lbs I think....one of the other doubles I tried was close to 40lbs!).

The basket underneath is really roomy, the seats adjust in leg room and the sunshade can be adjusted to allow for extra head room.

I also LOVE that I can use it as a single stroller once DD gets a bit older.  We go out a lot, and to places that can get crowded and require a lot of walking (MOA, both zoos, plus we live in Minneapolis, so when we walk somewhere I like having the option of keeping DD safe from traffic in the stroller!) and she enjoys riding for now, but when she no longer needs that option, it's great to be able to use it as a single!

  • I have a 2.5 year old DS, and I am expecting an LO at the beginning of April. After going to stores and testing some of the strollers out, we decided to go with the City Select. It didn't seem too heavy to me (of course I'm used to lifting a 30 lb child multiple times a day while pregnant, so it didn't seem any worse than that) when I was testing it.

I did love all the different options for seating, especially that I can use it as a single stroller once DS doesn't want to ride anymore. The price was an obstacle for us, but when I thought about how long it was going to be used on walks and such, DH agreed with me that the extra cost would be okay (esp since MIL is paying for part of it).

  • Thank you all so much for the opinions!! I'm leaning more towards the City Select now. Have any of you with the select had issues with your little one being uncomfy in this, stroller or on the height of seat being too short?

I just want to make sure it's the best since we are paying a lot for it!!

    Thanks again!!!

We don't actually have ours yet. We'll probably go out to purchase it at the beginning of March. However, when I was in the store, it seemed like there was more than enough room for my DS. The foot rest extends a bit and the canopy over the seat moves up a bit to accommodate taller children.

  • I "test drove" the City Select today and it's pretty awesome. But not so awesome I am willing to pay $700. $500 for the stroller, $150 for the 2nd seat, and $50 for the baby car sear attachment.

    Holy Sh*t.

  • Where can you test out the CS?  I've only been to BRU and they didn't have it.  I don't want to shell out the money without seeing it first!!
  • baby grand has it.

I LOVE our CS. I got it on albee baby for less than 500 (stroller, doubles kit and a snack tray). The 2011 version will be on clearance soon if it's not yet. That's what I did...I got the 2010 model last February.
