wear pants over or under the belly (clicky poll)

so i have alot of maternity jeans and i always seem to take the belly part and wear it folded down under my belly.

then yesterday i wore a dress  to work with my new maternity tights- and i felt so pretty- BUT by the middle of the day i felt like my belly was so constricted- and by the time i got home i was tearing the tights off and my poor belly had red marks all over it.

i think i like letting my belly just hang out- even all my lounge around the house pants / yoga / velour pants i just bought bigger sizes so i can wear them low on my hips......

how do you ladies wear your pants?

Re: wear pants over or under the belly (clicky poll)

  • The only pants I wear low and let it hang out are my pj's and lounge type pants. I love the full belly coverage! I don't like the way the other mat pants fit that are below the belly, they feel like they are going to fall off me.

  • I voted for "switch it up" because it depends on where I am.  If I am at work (teacher) my dress pants are over the belly and that is how I wear them because I feel more covered.  By the time I get home I can't wait to change into my comfy pants or jeans that I wear under the belly.  I just have this fear that if I fold the band down during the day then at some point some student is going to get a glimpse of belly (and nobody wants that, haha).  :)

I'm the opposite.  I hate the full panel ones because the panel never stays up, and then I have a bunch, droopy mess around my hips.  Granted, the regular ones don't stay up too well either.

I confess I hate maternity pants and cannot wait to wear regular ones again.  I'm still wearing my old jeans with a rubber band a few times a week because I get tired of constantly tugging maternity pants back up.

  • I folded the panel down under the belly until a couple of weeks ago. Now they feel more comfortable with the panel pulled all the way up.

eta: I do still wear non-mat. lounge pants under my belly at home.

  • I agree with PP that the only pants i wear below my belly are lounge pants when I am home.  I like having the full belly coverage because it smooths everything out under your tops too... I doubt anyone really wants to see my belly button sticking out!
  • I can't stand wearing tights anymore either, if I do I make sure that the waist is well below my belly.

    Ditto this.

Also, I feel like the panel helps to make my bump look more bumpish and less lumpish.

i get self conscious of this- but at this point i just want to be comfortable so i dont care anymore! LOL

  • I wear the unders until they get uncomfy and then only MM's full panels because they stay up and are super comfy and you get no VPL.

  • I'm in the full panel except for lounge pants/pj's club. I am a coach and i'm constantly putting my arms/arm up over my head. If it weren't for my full panel, i'm sure i'd flash someone 98% of the time.

  • I wear jeans with the panel over the belly...I like them that way for maximum coverage! I have one pair with just the stretchy band around the waist and I stopped wearing them a long time ago, they kept falling down. I feel like the panel over the belly makes me look more pregnant than fat, although the line at the top of them across the belly is annoying.

  • As far as my jeans and work pants, they have the full belly elastic band. I pull it up as far as it reaches, in the beginning-my boobs, nowadays- just above my belly button.

When it comes to around the house pants such as pj's I'm just wearing my pre-pregnancy pj's that I wear below my belly.

  • Depends on the pants. I have a couple pairs that start sagging and creeping down if I wear them under the bump. I also have a few pairs that only feel comfy if I wear them low.

This exactly and I feel like my belly looks nicer with the full coverage too!

  • I can't stand pants (or underwear!) under the belly. It gives me that irritating feeling of needing to pull something up.

That's how I am too.  My exercise/yoga pants are below too (though the one maternity pair I have, I use the full panel so you can't see my bellow button).  I have some of both, but I prefer the full panel.  All of my lounging pants/PJs are just my normal non-maternity ones, so those are below by belly.

I have a pair of full panel jeans from the Gap and the panel is WAY too big--I have a very saggy looking butt in those.

  •  I hate having anything over my belly. Any maternity pants I have that have a panel I fold it down.

    UGH so annoying-

  • I have bought pants at old navy before realizing how uncomfortable the belly part is.  I feel like it pushed my belly all day.  So I ended up getting pants at Motherhood and I can barely even feel it on my belly, they are much more comfortable.  The material is soft light and stretchy.  I like my pants and pull them up all the time, besides they hold my belly in a more symmetrical shape.  I like them over my belly, but it does depend on the brand of pants.

  • I'm about half and half with work wear. I'm still wearing two pairs of demi panel pants that I got at 14 weeks. I've got one pair of full panel maternity jeans that I bought at 16 weeks that no longer cover my belly to my preference, so I fold that one down.

Most of my other pants are full panel.

All my lounge wear at home I wear under the belly. I only have one pair of maternity sweat pants. I just wear my pre-pg ones pushed low.
