WDYT of this name? I like it, but I'm a little concerned about nicknames... Dom? Is it just me or does that come too close to sounding like "dumb"? Maybe I'm just over analyzing it?
I think you're over-analyzing. Dominic Michael is a great name. I wouldn't worry about "nicknames" at all, especially if you and your husband plan on calling him Dominic -- most people will follow suit.
Is Mimo only used as a nn for Domenico, and not Dominic? Well, depending on the answer, I like Mimo. But, it might be a little young sounding as he grows up. But Dom doesn't bother me either.

My DS is Dominic Michael and we call him Dominic. My brother sometimes calls him Dom, but not often. I sometimes call him Nicky, but more often I use nicknames that have nothing to do with his name (BooBear is my go to nn for him). My dad will say Big D, as a greeting but calls him Dominic after that.
Every Dominic I know is called Dom. I don't think it's too close to "dumb" but if you hate the nn Dom maybe think of another name
This. One of my closest friends has a DS named Dominic Anthony and he is often referred to as either "Dom" or "baby Dom". That said, they also do this so people take their cues. I think you could gently remind others that his name is Dominic.

I'm with the group who think that your chid will be called what you call him until he is old enough to choose a NN. You can correct people if you really don't like a name they call him. But some day he might choose to go by Dom so if you really hate it... then look elsewhere. If you'd be ok with it if he chose to go by that, then use it. You have SOME control of NNs... pretty much entire control until he's old enough. Often kids like going by what they've gone by though - it's not likely he'll spend his first 10 years saying "no my name is Dominic" because that is what you call him to then decided to say "call me Dom"... I mean, he might, who knows.
I think if Dominic was a very unique or made up name, then people might do the Dom=dumb thing. However, this is a common, well known name and NN. I don't think anyone thinks about it. I also think Dominic is fine without a NN. Overall it's a great name, don't let the NN thing stop you.

I really like the name Dominic. DH has a friend named Dominic and they call him "Dom" sometimes, but I have never associated that with "dumb." I think you should go for it.
I think that Dominic Michael is an adorable name! Be careful though because in my area I know of three people who (within the last four months) named their sons Dominic. I had no idea it was so popular!
I agree with other people, you won't be able to control what his friends call him when he gets older, but until then you could just refer to him as Dominic and hope others follow along. I also like the idea of calling him Nick.
My daughter's name is Allyson so I go through people calling her Ally all of the time, and I don't mind for the most part, but I just always call her Allyson.
Re: Dominic Michael
I love Dominick and Domenico. You could avoid Dom by using Nick as a nn, or just saying "His name is Dominic, please don't call him Dom."

No one else calls him anything but Dominic.

That was long winded. Sorry
It's a nice name.

Love Dominic Michael.
Not a big fan of Dom, I'd probably use Nico or Nick as the nn if you want that option. Just Dominic would be fine though.
Me too. Love Nico!
