NBR: Extra Long Cabinet Pull Template?

We have kitchen cabinet pulls with a 5" spread - so they are longer than the traditional pulls. Home Depot and Lowes only have installation templates for the normal pulls with 4" spread.

I know IKEA has one, and I'm pulling a last ditch effort to get out of driving across the country to Ikea for a $2 part. But I NEED one.

Anyone know where I can get one? Hell, I'd rather order one than drive up there (Yes, Ikea will ship it. For $24.99. HA), but I can't find anything on Amazon or anywhere for that matter.

Re: NBR: Extra Long Cabinet Pull Template?

  • How long until you "need" it?  We're planning to head that way, but I'm not sure when in this month it will be.

  • And ETA: for northies, it's about 35 miles from my house/ SLB's neighborhood one-way to Ikea.  Wink

  • I'll probably drag myself up there after work today. If I HAVE to. Although now that you remind me it's 35 miles, I think I might just go burn down my kitchen instead. LOL!
  • Can't you just make one? That's what I've always done. Trace the handle onto a piece of cardboard and mark x's where the screw holes are. Then just drill through the x's. To test, you can just screw the handle into the cardboard to make sure that the holes line up.
  • SIGH. I've tried that. On two doors, and they both came out crooked. Thankfully, I was able to fix them. However, I'm obviously not "detail oriented" enough to get this done correctly, and I'm terrified I'm about to ruin all my brand new cabinets!
  • Wait wait wait, you just need a template, not actual hardware?

  • When DH needed a drawer template like that, he folded over a piece of sheet metal, just to give it a 1" lip to sit on the drawer, and had two holes drilled in it where the hardware goes.  Does that make sense?  Do you have the materials for something like that?

I'm inclined to volunteer my DH, but he is just getting off work, and I know he was up all night and ridiculously grumpy this morning, so I fear exposing him to anyone I like today. Wink

You may be in luck tomorrow, though.

  • Yah, just the template. And I've calmed down and talked myself out of driving to Ikea for a $2 piece of plastic.

I think MY stupid husband should be doing this, but he's "tired" of working on the kitchen, so he's just going to quit - like every other project he starts. Oops, did I say that out loud? Stick out tongue In short, I really want to finish the kitchen myself. I'm determined!

I hadn't thought of sheet metal. I tried a shoebox top (not straight enough) and a piece of clear plastic (no lip), but that's a darn good idea! I do have quite the arsonal of tools at my disposal.

Okay, y'all have talked me into getting back at this again tonight, on my own. I have done the whole rest of the house, so why are these stupid handles giving me such a hard time?!
