Cravings, aversions, pregnant food post

If this person isn't born covered in sour sugar I might be surprised. The only thing I have craved consistently is sour gummy candies.

With A I had a horrible aversion to french fries, this time I am not a huge fan of food in general, but have no specific food aversions.

What cravings or aversions do you have now. If you are pregnant with number two, or are not currently pregnant, what cravings or aversions did you have?

  • Haha! With my dd all I wanted was sour patch kids and lemonade. I didn't eat one egg the whole time, the thought of cracking an egg made me so sick! Not sure about this one yet, I'll keep you posted Smile

  • Not pregnant now but with my pregnancy with B, broccoli made me gag even with cheese sauce. I still can't stomach it :/ Oddly enough, I loved salads.

With C, no aversions really but I craved tuna fish like I was some kind of cat. Sadly, I had to limit it but I went close to my weekly limit.

  • W/ DS, I couldn't be in the same room as anything tomato-based (although I was fine w/ fresh tomatoes) or beef in any form w/o wanting to hurl.  I craved crispy chicken sandwiches for the first tri, then fruit and doughnuts for the second and third tri.  I also had a brief love affair w/ bagels during the second tri, until I hacked off most of a fingertip while slicing a bagel.  Sad day.

W/ DD, I couldn't stomach eggs or beans.  The egg aversion lessened during the last month or so, but the beans kept going strong.  I hated basically all food during the first tri, and craved baked goods and cereal during the second and third tri.

  • The aversion I had to meat with Collin was no intense. I could not look at or smell let alone eat any meat for the entire pregnancy. It took months afterward to get over it and I had to build up. I started with things where I couldn't see the meat like soup and casseroles and went from there. Once I got back into the swing of things, I had to eat burgers every day for weeks. The whole thing was crazy! No cravings though.

  • I had such an odd and somewhat disturbing aversion to Subway the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy. It was at the point where I would burst into tears if a Subway commercial came on and throw up. I couldn't even say 'Subway' without inmediately getting nauseous. It was bad. The second half of my pregnancy I couldn't get enough Subway and ate there practically every other day.

I didn't really have many cravings - or at least nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. I had horrid nausea and vomiting for about ooooo 7 months or so and whenever I got a taste for something I would just eat as much of it as I could. The big ones were Pad Thai and Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch.

Wow. That's crazy. The body wants what it wants, huh? :) My broccoli aversion was like that except I still can't stand it :)

  • I haven't had any specific cravings or aversions.  I'm loving carbs - bagels, pasta etc - but I always love them, pregnant or not and have always been a carb freak.  I've also always had really specific aversions and sometimes certain foods make me gag, so being pregnant's been a good excuse to capitalize on that and not have to eat gross food haha.

I've also been eating a lot of ice cream (which is probably where my weight gain is coming from lol) but I always love ice cream, but I don't like ice cream if i've had wine or beer already in the evening. So now that I'm not drinking the ice cream love is in full force.

  • When I was pregnant with Annabelle I could pretty much eat anything and everything, but oh did soda, coffee and greasy food give me heartburn. I also ate ice cream like it was birthday every night.

With this pregnancy I've been craving sweets, but mainly donuts, milk (most likely because of the bad case of heartburn again), and ice cream.

    No aversions with both pregnancy.

  • I had zero m/s or heartburn with J, and no real aversions.  I had ice cream every night though and I couldn't get enough cheese, or things with cheese in/on them.  I also ate a lot of peanut butter, on english muffins, toast, crackers, apples, anything that it worked with.

I feel like it's still to early to have any real cravings or aversions, I've had ice cream almost every night, but I have a sweet tooth anyway.

  • I have no food aversions, I pretty much eat everything and anything that I ate before I was pregnant. Although, I've developed quite the love affair with grape fruits and mangoes. You could wake me up at 4 am, offer me a grape fruit and I will roll over and happily accept Smile

  • Both pregnancies were similar. I craved lemonade like there was no tomorrow, and potato chips (especially super crunchy kettle cooked ones) which I can usually take or leave. Tons of fruit and spinach. Anything that combined cheese, egg, and spinach was my best friend. And beef. Which is funny, because when I am not preg I don't eat red meat. DH loved it that I sent him on Five Guys runs.

ETA: I forgot, aversions. I could not eat salads for the life of me. They seriously made me want to hurl.

  • Not PG, but when I was PG w/ DD, I ate egg salad like it was my job.  There is a deli downstairs in my building and they have really awesome egg salad - I was there like 3x a week.  And, toward the end, I got really obsessed w/ apple juice too.  I knew I needed to drink more, but I've never been a fan of water, so apple juice it was.  One of the partners at my firm even commented on it in a meeting, I think I drank all 8 mini-bottles of juice that had been set up for a meeting and he said we shoulld make sure to get moer apple juice for meetings w/ Kathryn.  *Embarrassed  I of course, just blamed the baby.  I didn't really have any aversions, but cucumbers would make me burpy nad I had to stop eating them (and still can't eat them now); this was very sad, b/c I've always loved cucumbers.

  • I didn't have too many cravings or aversions when I was pregnant. I was definitely on a citrus kick though. There was a span where I had to have an orange and orange juice everyday. Then it was lemonade. I also ate a weekly tuna sandwich, but tried to limit it to that. As soon as he was born, I didn't want tuna anymore and I think I've only had it once since.

I didn't really have an "aversion" to coffee, but I didn't ever want it while pregnant.

Oh near the end of my pregnancy, I was dying for a club sandwich but since I wasn't eating cold deli meat, I waited until after he was born. I *finally* got that club sandwich at work one day but before I could take a bite, the building shook and we all ran outside (earthquake day). Kind of overshadowed the sandwich Smile

  • I craved fruit, veggies and anything salty. Towards the end I wanted lots of sweets but I had pretty much only healthy cravings up until then which surprised me. I never once had a "weird" craving...I feel like that's a myth. I've never heard anyone say they actually wanted pickles and ice cream.

OMG, I wanted tuna melts all the time when pregnant. But I too had to limit myself. I could have had several per week.

  • This time around I haven't had to many food cravings where I was like, oh I must have XYZ, but I have gotten on food kicks.  Early in my pregnancy I could have eaten a taco salad every day.  Right now I am on a grilled cheese kick.

Now I want a tuna melt.

Actually, I wanted one last week when I met my Mom and sister at Friendly's, but ended up getting something else. I think DD and I are going to Friendly's tonight now.

Lol-I love how I have gotten food ideas into your head twice in the past few days now. That part of pregnancy always amused me.....someone would mention something that sounded tasty and I would think "Ok, I really need to go out and get this now."

  • With DS I was dying for anything with cheese, cereal, milk, ChikFila Lemonade, Coke Slurpees, and Brownies from 711...oh I really wanted watermelon too

I couldn't stomach chicken.  The taste of it made me gag.

...oh I really wanted watermelon too

This was a big one for me when I was pregnant the first time. From about July to September I ate an entire watermelon every three days. This was on top of tons of other fruit.

  • With D', I couldn't get enough sweets.  I couldn't eat red meat though (didn't make me sick, I just physically could not swallow it!).

With #2, I'm having the same problem with not being able to eat shrimp (killing me because I would LOVE to go to Red Lobster & have their Shrimp Scampi!!!!!).  I'm also craving salty foods (sometimes salty sweet).  I've also been more into salad & fruit this go-round.

  • I didn't have a lot of aversions to foods while pregnant (I only threw up once and had a couple waves of nausea here and there) except for chicken occasionally and I couldn't cook with ground beef, but was fine once it was in the form of a cheeseburger. ;) At first I craved salty things, and just wanted to eat a huge block of cheddar cheese w/ crackers. After my 1st tri I was more into sweets, and wore DD would come out as a watermelon, ice cream, or cereal.

  • Aversion - I couldn't eat anything with red meat.... no steaks, no cheeseburgers, etc.  It was really weird.

    Cravings - 1st Tri - slurpee's, 2nd Tri - CFA peppermint milkshake, 3rd Tri - ??  I loved pizza and pizza hut bread stick's throughout my pregnancy.

  • No real aversions...though I have been avoiding broccoli since it makes me so uncomfortably bloated.  As far as cravings, in the beginning I was craving cheese and burgers more than normal.  I am still craving (that's kind of a strong word) tuna salad.  I NEVER ate tuna salad previously and have been craving it every few days...so funny how a lot of the ladies have mentioned tuna.

Overall, my appetite/type of food I'm eating now is pretty much the same as it was pre-pregnancy.  I was so much hungrier those first few weeks and I'm sure it will pick up soon.

  • Haven't really had any aversions so far. There was a week during the first trimester when chicken grossed me out but I got over it. I've been craving Mac n cheese and oranges/orange juice. Haven't really had any cravings for sweets but the other night I really wanted mint chic chip ice cream so I ran out to Baskin Robbins for a sundae :)
