So I'm pregnant...

Definitely didn't expect this, but am happy none the less! Looks like I'll be due around Oct. 7th. Scared but looking forward to a new little one to join our family. Any recommendations on things I can do to help my ASD DS prepare for the arrival? TIA!

Re: So I'm pregnant...

  • Congrats! That is so exciting :) I am due next month and my DS really has no clue as to what is about to come his way :) I have been trying to talk to him a lot about the baby, show him the baby's room and the baby's stuff like diapers and clothes, etc but its hard to know how much he understands. Thankfully he really seems to love little babies so I am hoping he will love his new little brother or sister!

  • Congrats! It is definitely Challenging to prepare for a new LO when you have a SN child that is unlikely to follow age appropriate expectations. My DS was diagnosed with CP and failed his developmental exam big time since we found out we are pregnant. It is certainlyan emotional roller coaster and unfortunately my DS will likely be unready in many of the ways we had hoped he might be before baby comes. I don't have advice re: your DS but can say continue to try to enjoy and appreciate your pregnancy and being able to focus on just your two LO's for now. Congrats again!
  • Just wanted to say congratulations! Best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy.
