Please help

I was changing DD and as I unsnapped her onsie I caught her umbilical cord and ripped it a little. It was bleeding a little but has stopped. Do you think I should put a loose fitting band aid over it so it doesn't get caught or rp off more? I feel horrible! I hate seeing her in pain and knowing I caused it is even worse :( please help!

TIA

Re: Please help

  • Awww, I'm sorry. :( I know you probably still feel horrible even though she's long since forgotten about it. Mom guilt is the worst.

I probably wouldn't do anything to the cord but try to avoid it in the future (as I know you were/and will do). I'm sure it will be just fine!

  • Don't cover it up - you need it to dry out.  That's how it shrivels up and falls off - it's essentially a weird scab.  A little bleeding is normal (according to my ped) - but if it doesn't stop, you should call the doc.  My ped had me clean my son's cord with hydrogen peroxide twice a day to help keep it clean and dry it out.  Good luck!
