It's official- I'm being induced Friday. Yes, there's a change that I may go into labor before then, but I really don't feel like that's going to happen. I really didn't want to have to be induced, but it looks like I won't have a choice. I've heard so many horror stories, but does anyone have any positive induction stories? I would really love to hear them. Thanks, ladies!
Re: Any positive induction stories? Tips?
I was induced on my due date due to PIH. I started with cytotec at noon and was given two more doses (I don't remember how far apart). I don't remember when I started feeling contractions, but I walked around the hospital for hours. DH and I played a couple card games, my family came to visit, I was fine all day. I think the contractions started to pick up a bit during the night because I had a hard time sleeping. So, we walked some more. At 5:00am I was started on the pitocin. That's when they wouldn't let me walk around anymore because I had to be monitored more closely (not to mention hooked up to the pit). That was mentally very tough for me. I knew that I was doing so well because I had the freedom to move around. They brought me a labor ball, though, and I used that for two hours. Finally, around 7:00am I asked for an epi--I was 7cm. The contractions were very close together--probably less than a minute in between and got intense real quick. The only reason I asked for the epi, though, was because I started feeling nauseous and I absolutely hate throwing up so I thought the epi would take that feeling away. It did. They broke my water after a little while and I was 10cm at 10:00. I started pushing at 11:00 (my midwife gave him more time to come down) and he was born at noon. I know for a fact I pushed longer than I needed to b/c I wasn't always doing good pushes b/c I felt like throwing up when I pushed really good and I really did not want to throw up all over myself (seriously, I have to get over my fear of throwing up with this one!). The nursery nurse was probably in the room expecting the baby for like a half hour.
Honestly, I was terrified of being induced, but in the end it wasn't that bad. Because I had the ability to walk around for so long that really helped move labor along and it took a lot of the pain away. Even the labor ball was really good. Good luck!

I had a great induction!
DS was due on 4/21/10. He never dropped, I didn't dilate past 1 or 2cm. I was scheduled for 4/29. We arrived at 8am as told but they had a lot of women there that went into labor overnight (apparently the full moon does work for some people!). We were told we could wait or reschedule so we decided to wait until noon, then we'd reschedule.
11:45am, the nurse runs up to me & says "We had a room open up, come on back!!".
12:15pm, my doc comes in after I'm all hooked up & checked in. Nurse asks if he wants to break my water, he said not yet, just wanted to see if I had dilated any since my last visit. He accidentally broke my water. Said it was so thin that I would have gone into labor that night or the next morning.
4:30pm, I finally opted for my epi (nurses asked every now & then but I kept saying no. Finally contractions got bad enough that I said "OK!" lol!).
9pm, nurse checks me says "time to get ready to push!"
10:25pm, DS was born with a very strong set of lungs!!
About 10.5hrs of L&D!
I also had a great induction. I went in when I was 39 weeks (mutual decision between my dr and I to do it early) my hubby and I showed up at 7 am and I was hooked up on pitocin and everything by 8. Dr came in and checked me and I was only 2 cm and 100% effaced. She told me to get up and walk so we did until about noon when the dr came in to check me again and just as she was about to check me my water broke. That made the contractions stronger!
I was then able to go get in the bath that they had in my room and say in there for the next 7 hours off and on it helped with the pain a lot. I was then told around 7 to get out so they could check me and I was ready to push, I then pushed for 2 hours but in the end delivered my baby girl at 8 lbs 8 oz.
I was able to do it epi free and didn't tear at all. Very good experience and we are going to do it again with this one if I haven't delivered by 39 weeks. Good luck and I hope everything goes great for you!

I was induced on Halloween. I was about a week overdue. I have nothing but good things to say. I went to the hospital at 7:00am. We did all the paperwork, met our nice labor nurse, and by 9am I got my water broken (I was already 4cm, but not in labor), and they gave me pitocin. I didn't start to get any regular contractions until about 1pm. At around 5pm decided to get the epidural. At that point I could handle the pain, but I was afraid that I wouldn't in the near future. So, I got the epi and I was feeling great within half an hour and had my daughter by 7:40pm after pushing for 1 hour. I knew exactly when I had to push (I had the urge)...I felt pressure, not pain...it felt like I had to poop.
Looking back, I probably could have done it without the epi, but I have no regrets. I had a wonderful birth experience!
