anyone's LO still swaddled?

Q still has a crazy moro reflex and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. She also rubs her eyes to death if left unswaddled. I plan to talk to the doc about it tomorrow, but is anyone else's baby still swaddled?

I mean she sleeps and can roll and sit up unassisted - obviously it's not really slowing her down, so it can't be too bad, right?

Re: anyone's LO still swaddled?

  • My LO is still swaddled for most naps and night time. We've always swaddled her with arms out because that's what she's liked from the beginning. I am not concerned about her still being swaddled at all. I don't think you need to worry either.

  • We stopped swaddling when our LO could roll over onto his belly. I was afraid he wouldn't be able to use his arms to roll himself off of his face. We used those little mittens or socks over his hands because we had the same problem with the eye rubbing and that seemed to help. Now we don't use anything, he rolls himself onto his belly and sleeps with his knees tucked underneath him.

  • Our pedi just signed a release form for our DC to continue swaddling our LO for naps.  He sleeps in our bed, unswaddled, through the night but he is always swaddled when he sleep alone (or he wouldn't sleep more than 20 minutes, ever).  He has never rolled back to tummy though.

DD still uses the woombie.  DH is convinced this is why she hasn't rolled over.  Never mind the fact that she's super chunky and I seriously don't think she can roll over her big old belly.

Oh, I hadn't heard of this before - I think I want one!

  • Yes. she wouldn't nap or sleep otherwise. We've tried the woombie and the sleep sack and after 2 hours of trying to get her down we went back to the miracle blanket. She's getting a big long for it, though and is starting to break out of it so I don't know what we're going to do next.

I have this problem too, she's too long for the mb :(

I have a BIG kid (he's over 20 lb now), and I still use the MB.  I've started doing a second swaddle over the top of the MB so his shoulders are covered up and he can't really break through it.  Or maybe I have less of a swaddle fighter than you guys...?

  • Yep! DS moves around a ton and after we first started swaddling him he slept 10+ hrs a night ... I'm not messing with that. Told his doc and she said it was fine (mentioned she wouldn't recommend if we were using a blanket and not a specific swaddle blanket) and that he will simply grow out of being swaddled.

I guess maybe I haven't tried moving it down. I'm thinking about trying the woombie with a straight jacket type blanket underneath (kind of like the miracle blanket idea, I just do it with half a receiving blanket and pin her arms back).

  • Crash, which woombie do you have? It looks like the original is the stretchiest. I'm leaning toward the winter one, but maybe I'm being too optimistic thinking she'll be unswaddled by spring?
