Any thoughts?
We don't smoke & never have. I have 1 close friend that does but she never smokes in our house, in our car or near our son. Even if she drives, she rarely smokes while I'm in the car because she knows I'm not a smoker. In all honesty, it drives me nuts when I see someone smoking in a car with a kid in the back seat. Probably about as nuts as when I see kids not buckled in, climbing all over the car while on the highway (or any road).
I get that it's becoming more & more restricted for people to smoke but I don't get why people think it's OK to smoke around kids, regardless of where (restaurant before the bans, car, home, etc).
Re: Kids exposed to Secondhand Smoke in Cars - article
ditto all this.
Well for some reason I can't open the article. :-/
But honestly, I'm all for the restriction on smoking. I was raised with both of my parents smoking in the house, in the cars, everywhere around us. AND I was a really bad asthmatic as well, so I was always sick with breathing problems as a child. Now that I'm grown, I can hardly stand to be around people who smoke because I just can't breathe around it.
People know it's bad to smoke, yet they do it anyway. That's ok, it's their choice if they want to do something bad for their health. But they should be considerate of their children and their children's health and not smoke around them.
Its illegal in British Columbia, Canada where I reside. Not that I would ever even consider smoking in the car with my son.Our car is completly smoke free all the time reguardless.
Same.
I read an article about a week ago (of course i can't find it now) about how Ohio is considering banning smoking in a car if there are kids 6 or under inside it. While I think the idea is FANTASTIC - I also think that (sadly) it won't fly. Intelligence can't be legislated.
What about third-hand smoke in cars? I haven't done any research but I'm assuming this is harmful as well. The smoke gets everywhere, the upholstry, carpet, etc.
I am concerned about this because my hubby is a smoker and smokes in the car but does not do it when I'm in the car, obviously, and will not when toting our daughter around. But I think he will continue to smoke in the car when neither of us are around but the third-hand smoke will still be there.
