So, our LO hates to be dirty. More often than not, she'll wake in the middle of the night and we'll do a diaper change. If she doesn't go back down, we'll give her a bottle, especially if she's been sick (thank you daycare). Our ped told us to NOT give her that bottle in the middle of the night. I don't know though, I have no problem giving it to her if she's had an off day eating, or didn't finish her before bed bottle. Tonight she finished her before bed bottle, so if she wakes up, I'll probably just try to change the diaper and put her back down. Of course the middle of the night bottle effects her morning bottle. She'll barely take any first thing if she had an overnight bottle.
Are you moms still giving your LOs middle of the night feedings? Diaper changes? Letting them fuss through it if they wake in the middle of the night? Our LO also does a lot of "sleep crying." It will sound like she's awake and crying and we'll go in and get her and she's still basically sleeping.
Re: Overnight feedings and diaper changes
I dont change her in the middle of the night but I do feed her. Usually only once..sometimes twice.
We stopped doing diaper changes early on, as pp mentioned. It just riled her up and seemed to extend her awake time.
She usually wakes once a night and I will nurse her and she'll go right back down. I'll feed her provided she's been asleep for at least 6 hours. If she wakes before that 6 hour mark, I'll let her fuss for a bit and she can usually get back to sleep. My pedi suggested that and it's worked well so far.
Good luck
Thanks everybody! I don't feel so bad now with the diaper change with a feeding in the middle of the night.
I do agree with a pp poster that she tends to wake up more during the diaper change, which is why the bottle helps her fall back asleep. It is the only time she ever eats and falls asleep because she goes down for the night awake in her crib and for naps, too.
