Ring sling? Adjustable sling? Wrap? I am intimidated by the wrap but not completely against them if that is what's best. I work out of a home office and would love to be able to carry LO when he is born. Which is he most comfortable for baby and me? Is it truly just a personal preference? I see a "Peanut Shell Sling" on Zulily for a good price. Are slings uncomfortable since they are only on one shoulder? I am beginning to think I am puting way too much thought into this but I also know I won't have time to be running to the store to buy different carriers so I want to make an educated decision. Any advice is appreciated. Oh, and importantly.....LO will be born in April and we live in GA so we are talking about a hot, humid summer.
Thanks!!!
Re: New to baby carrying.....advice on newborn carrier please.
It's definitely a personal choice, I'm not a sling fan because for us, it doesn't mimic the way he likes to be held- chest to chest. So I love the moby and other carriers that held/hold him in a hug hold. I know a lot of others love slings.
The wraps really aren't difficult, but it is much easier to see it than to try to figure it out from reading instructions.
If I worked from home I would definitely wear the moby since it's really comfortable - like putting on a cardigan or t-shirt.
My favorite is the Boba Wrap (aka Sleepy Wrap). It is so cozy and LO loves to snuggle in it! I did not care for the Moby at all. I felt like the material was itchy and I personally do not like that it has zero stretch to it, making it tricky to figure out how tight to tie it. The Boba is similar to a jersey cotton material with a bit of stretch so you really cant tie it too tight because it stretches to make room for baby!
I have also used the Peanut Shell and Seven slings. They are okay. I have given both of them away because they hurt my shoulder. I personally think my LO would like them better once he's older but he's a little guy right now and I just feel like theres not enough support for him in them.
I've also used the Bjorn and its as terrible as everyone will tell you. It was a gift and my first carrier before I knew anything abuot carriers. LO took right to it but once he hit about 13lbs it KILLED my back and was no longer an option for me to wear.
I will be purchasing a Beco for spring/summer use because the Boba does get a little hot.
Skip the Peanut Shell and Sevens slings...get something you will be able to use long term.
Hmmm...are you sure you tried a Moby? A Moby wrap is stretchy in all directions and is made of cotton jersey. A sleepy wrap is stretchier because of the Lyrca, but they both are stretchy.
Now, a woven wrap is not stretchy and does require precision to tie. But, it is like trying shoelaces. At one point it was tough, now it is second nature. Personally, I sold my Moby because wovens are sooo much more supportive and versatil and with a new baby, we'll use a woven from day 1. I find the learning curve well worth it.
More Green For Less Green
My favorite as a new mom with a new baby was my mei tai. I had a wrap (just a homemade one), and it was too much effort. I never got over the learning curve to like it.
Since then I got a ring sling, and you can do chest-to-chest in one. They're much more comfy then they look, somehow, and grow with the baby well.
I would skip the peanut shell and seven slings.
I posted a bit down about a store with a clearance on mei tais and ring slings. Either or both would be great, IMO.
