Natural Birth

Just a question from a FTM...

So I am wondering what the benefit is of going matural vs. pain meds?

I am new to all this and just wanting to know what the debate is? I am worried about the pain, but i do feel I have a goot threshold for pain, so I am hoping I can handle this most of the way. And my origional plan was to hold off on the epi until I hit 7 or 8 but lately i have been thinking if I can go that long whats a little more.

Which is where my question comes from, is there a benefit?

TIA

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • There's lots of benefits but here's one. Benefit to going med free: Awesome recovery time. I was ready to get up and move around, use the shower etc right away.

  • My reasons for wanting to go without epidural this time are quicker recovery, avoiding a catheter, not being at risk for spinal headaches (which I got last time and lasted on and off for a few months)  having an easier time breastfeeding (because Epi's DO affect the baby).  Being able to move around  while in labor, is also a huge benefit...
  • The post below, "The Thing I Don't Understand," has a lot of great primer info (and also a little taste of board drama, LOL!)
  • Being able to move around, less chance of tearing during delivery, no catheter (and thus decreased risk of infection), and no risk of serious epidural complications to you or the baby. You'll also get this indescribable birth high that I can only try to describe by saying it's an amazing feeling of empowerment, feminism, and happiness.

  • I wanted to be able to move during labor (can't if you have an epi) and I didn't want baby to be drugged at birth.  I felt that we would have a better chance at breastfeeding right away.  Also, I heard some horror stories about epidural headaches for weeks or months and wanted to avoid all the risks.
