Care .com anyone?

Has anyone used care.com? I have only used family members to watch DD up til now, but they all live 2 hours away and that's sort of a pain if we just want to go out to dinner or have a date night. My boss found a part-time nanny/assistant on there and is happy with her. Just wondering if there are any other success stories out there.

  • We are signed up and have used a few gals from there.

I much prefer it to sitter city. That one felt like I was trolling for dates for my kiddo. Too much borderline inappropriate pictures of the girls for my taste.

Check with yiu or your husbands employer to see if they offer it to their employees. We just found out that O's employer offers it for us!

We both work for very small companies so it's not offered, but thanks for your response. I'm glad you have had luck with it. I'm going to try to set up a few interviews this weekend!

  • We've had success with Care, too.  It took some weeding, but we ended up with great sitters both here and in Houston.
  • Totally worth it. I printed out a few "things to ask when interviewing a baby sitter/ nanny" pages I found online and just went down the list :)

yes, I totally asked, "do you use drugs?" to a complete stranger :) I was all, "uhm, it says I should ask if you use drugs" bc I'm a wimp, but she laughed and said that's a great question and she's surprised more people don't ask.

I set up a marathon day of interviews at the park. H could play and come and meet them and run back off again while I chatted. It worked out well.

    Good luck!

  • We found two nannies through care.com and recommend it. For babysitter, I wasn't as successful but mainly it was my fault, as I got overwhelmed by the amount of responses and did not do a through job of screening and interviewing candidates. I think it helps to be as transparent as possible on your posting on what you expect. You will have to weed through lots of applications but there are some great candidates. One cool feature the site offers for free is you can have them call the references and just listen to recordings. It's very helpful when you're filtering candidates initially, even though you'd probably want to talk to references yourself for the person you eventually hire.

I was going to ask, should I not interview at my house? DD is 8 1/2 months old so I can't really let her run around at the park. Is that weird to have people at your house? How much interaction should they have with DD?
