Cloth Diapering

Opinions on covers

We CD DS with prefolds and either Mommy's Touch OS covers or Bummis Super Whisper Wraps.  It seems like lately, both kinds of covers aren't doing a great job.  DS is wetting through his pants more often than when he was a newborn.  So I'm looking into getting some new covers.

We used Thirsties when he was NB and didn't have issues with those.  When he grew out of them, I wanted to get something that would grow with him, hence the Mommy's Touch OS.  Now I'm looking at Blueberry Coveralls, Rumparooz, and Thirsties Duos.  The Thirsties Duos were recommended to me by a friend, but they are sized.  The Blueberry and Rumparooz are OS, so assuming they work well, I could probably use them for longer.  (They also have cuter prints and let's be honest--that's 50% of the draw of a cloth diaper anyway!)

Does anyone have any experience with any of these brands?  What would you lean towards if you were me?  Thanks!

Re: Opinions on covers

  • Blueberry Coveralls are my favorite cover of all time.  They're really generously sized, so they easily fit through potty training.  Thirsties Duo's are ok.  I hate Thirsties snaps, so I primarily have their velcro covers and they DON'T hold up well in the wash.  I have BB coveralls in snaps and velcro and the velcro are my favorite - they wash really well and have a much higher quality of aplix than Thirsties.  Never tried a rumparooz.  For what it's worth though, I've never had a leak through ANY PUL cover with a prefold unless I had left a piece of the cotton sticking out.

  • We have had great success with the BB coveralls, but we mostly use it at night over her night time diaper. It's really big and cut generously. The RaR has also worked well for us, and is a little narrower. The duos have never fit my LO right, and the rise snaps come undone easily.

That said, I prefer sized covers. They fit better, and you get a lot of use out of the medium size because this is the size most LOs stay at the longest. We has worked the best for us are bummis super brite and thirsties sized covers.

  • BB coveralls are my favorite.  Very generously sized.  I only have aplix, and it's super strong and has lasted very well.

I like thirsties duos.  Yes, you need 2 sizes from birth to potty, but you also get a trimmer fit b/c you don't have all that extra fabric when you don't need it.

I'll be honest - I don't spend the money on cuter prints, solid colors or white are fine for me.

The only blueberry stuff I have are pockets - they are fine, but they don't have the 2nd leg gusset to catch things better.

The coveralls have extra leg gussets, like Thirsties.

  • I love my Thirsties Duo covers. It just makes sense to buy one that they can use longer. I bought size one and DD is still using them with the rise snaps snapped down. She will be able to use them for a while. She has already outgrown her NB prefolds but the Thirsties Duo covers still have plenty of room for her.
