Mastitis questions

IM hoping the sharp pains are also a symptom of Mastitis. I have chills, fever and red boobies as well. DS has white crap on his tounge and I have sharp shooting pains in boobs Im hoping Ds just has milk on his tounge and we dont have thrush too. I have family coming over tomorrow for the superbowl and have a photographer coming over in the morning for ds newborn shoot go figure. Ill have to cancel the shoot. Im so not happy right now. What home remedies helped with your masitis. .How long did your symptoms last after taking you antibiotic. I havent seen a doc but will go to urgent care in the am. Im dyingggggggggg agh

    GEt antibiotics NOW!!  It sucks so bad, mine hurt for about a week after I started antibiotics.  I even had IV in the hospital and it still was bad.  As bad as it hurts, massage the crap out of it and pump and nurse to get the ducts clear of the infection.  I ended up back in the hospital with nurses massaging and pumping in the middle of the night... It sucks bad.  Hope you get better soon!

    I just started feeling better yesterday after having it since Tuesday. I started antibiotics right away. However 48 hours later my fever was still close to 103. So, I went back in and got a shot of antibiotics, which is when things started getting a little better. 

    Like the PP said, try as best you can to keep your breasts "empty". Cold packs helped for me too. I also took Motrin, which worked way better than the Tylenol for pain.

    Good luck...I know it sucks. It will get better though!

    I had it last week with a temp of 103.  It was terrible.  I had the shakes, sweats, full body ache etc.  I got antibiotics the next day and was feeling better within a day or two.  PP is right, as much as it hurts you have to nurse like crazy.  Your LO will help rid you of the infection.  Hope you're feeling better soon!

    Sorry you've all had to deal with this :(

    Just for future reference- do you contact your PCP, OB or ped for the antibiotics??

    I started feeling better (not 100%) within 12 hours.  I call my OB and after hearing my symptoms they just called in the prescription.  Good luck!

    I got my prescription from the on call dr in emergency at the hospital, it was the middle of the night and I was freezing, but sweating, temp was 103, shaking uncontrollably and vomiting.  When I got there they did blood work and figured I also had a uterus infection since I was having pains and weird smelling discharge down there.  They gave me IV antibiotics and saline to rehydrate, then a prescription for keflex for 7 days.  If by any chance you have trouble swallowing pills, get them to make it in liquid form.  It's pink deliciousness, and I'm usually bad for not taking all the pills, but I finished that to the last drop (I'm a baby I know haha)
