Nursery in small apt living room

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to fit a nursery into a living room? My husband and I rent a 1 bd and are trying to figure out how to fit a nursery in our living room until we have enough savings for a 2 bd apt in our building. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

  • There are a lot of things you can do, go check out Ikea. What shape is your living room?
  • Loading the player...
  • Do you have a closet big enough for a crib? I've seen a few of those kind of ideas on pintrest.......just by taking the closet door off and adding a curtain or something. Or you could use a room divider in an area of the living room.

  • A pack n play or a bassinet are options, especially if you are planning to move into a larger space sooner rather than later.  They're less expensive and smaller options and then you can upgrade to a full sized crib/dresser/etc. later on.

  • Have you looked at the Fisher Price Rock and Plays? We are planning on using one for ds and I've heard of people using them for 4-5+ months. They are super portable and don't take up much space. Otherwise, the PNP is a good option or maybe a mini crib? You could maybe just get a small dresser that would look ok in your living room to use to store some baby items? I think it would definitely work. We barely have anything ready for when #2 comes. We still need to move our bedroom dwnstrs so he can have our room for his nursery. It probably won't happen until after he's born.  Babies don't take up too much space:) Good luck!

  • We put the crib in our bedroom and dresser in the closet when we lived in a 1 bedroom when DS was small.
  • do you have a combo dining room and living room?  if so, get rid of the table and use that area for the nursery.  If I remember correctly, ikea cribs run smaller so that might be helpful for you.  Look at the ikea website...can you make room for the expedit workstation?  if you can make room this would be a perfect changing table (just put a changing pad on top with one of those things that goes under rugs to make it not slip).  Sorry I don't know what that under rug thing is called but it is sort of like a squishy foam sort of thing with holes in it (sorta like mesh).  You will get an unbelievable amount of storage just from those 8 square things.  They have a nice selection of boxes so you can organize and not have your mess show, plus there will be storage under the changing table part.
