Should I be concerned by this?

DS is 16 months old and seems to have a developed an obsession with Thomas the Tank Engine. Whenever he wakes from sleeping he immediately says "Thomas" - every single time. He will also bring me the TV remote and say "watch Thomas". He will watch it for a little while but then go off and play with DD's Thomas trains. He got mad yesterday when I wouldn't turn it on and started flailing and hitting the cable box. He seems to play appropriately with the Thomas toys. He will connect them and move them back and forth and say "wheeeee" or "choo choo". He will also send him down his play car ramp. For awhile, he was saying Thomas probably hundreds of time a day. That seems to have tapered off, but he still says it frequently. I don't know if this is normal toddler behavior or not.
DD has been diagnosed with Significant Dev Delay, but "an autism dx (like Aspbergers) can't be ruled out in the future". So, I do get concerned. She acted so different than DS at this age. I know 2 of DHs cousins have been dx with Autism and I definitely see where DH and MIL could easily be on the spectrum. I guess I just don't want to miss anything.

  • Sorry for the lack of paragraphs and any grammar errors, I typed this from my iPhone.

  • What happens if you try to play Thomas too?  Like if you crash your train into his and say "oh no"?  Does he freak out because your are interrupting his game or does he try to play with you?

Honestly the Thomas thing by itself is NBD, but my DS used to like to "control" Thomas and do scripts from the show.  Heaven help the poor kid or adult that tried to change his game.  That was a bigger sign than Thomas by itself.
