I've gained 35 lbs... so far!

Wow. I started this pregnancy at 5'4'' and 135 and I'm at 170 already with 12ish weeks to go. I haven't been too concerned and my doctors haven't said anything. I gained 50-55 lbs with DS and lost all but 5 lbs of it before getting pregnant again. And I have a feeling too that this baby is going to be a bit bigger than DS. But last night my mom's friend gave me a shocked face when I told her how much I had gained. She was like "I never gained that much with my pregnancies!" : P

I do need to start watching what I'm eating to slow down the gain and start doing my pregnancy exercise dvd, but I'm seriously not going to get crazy about it. I've spent all my non-pregnancy days worrying about weight. Give me a break.

Anybody else in the same (large) boat? Lol.

  • If you are naturally thin then I think it's pretty normal to gain more weight..  I needed to lose 10-15 lbs pre pregnancy and am now up 15 lbs I am 5'4 as well do I weigh the same as you now if it makes you feel better ;)

I'm definitely not naturally thin! Lol. But, it is so good to hear that I'm not beyond the norm! Its funny how it takes one comment from someone to make you feel like you or your body are doing something wrong!

135 for me I guess my body type I look like a stick!!  I guess it depends on your body ;). Don't let that lady ruin your day especially of you were able to lose the weight last time

  • I know I've gained way more with this pregnancy than either of my other two. I am 5'3" started at 119 and I'm 141 now which is what I was with ds at 35 weeks last time. I know Christmas didn't help and I'm home now so I can eat when ever I want which doesn't help. I hope I just hit my growth spurt early this time and things slow down if not I'm going to have a lot of work to do to get my body back this summer.

  • No but I started this pregnancy with an extra 30lbs :( so I've only gained 14lbs I'm trying not to gain alot...I was dieting before I got pregnant and I had lost 20lbs.  For me its not so much about the weight as I want to be healthy for my kids...My mom had a stroke at 50 and it runs in my family I have high cholesteral and have to watch what I eat! Scary!!

  • I was underweight before this pregnancy and I've probably gained about 35-40lbs if I had to guess ( I turn around on the scale). My OB hasn't said anything about it and even out me on weight gain at around 20 weeks. I get to my next appt.  with another doctor in the practice ( they us rotate so you meet them all) and she tells me I have gained too much ( meanwhile all my pre-pregnancy clothes fit somehow) " but you were small before pregnancy and it was the Holidays so I usually let patients slide a bit". I wanted to punch her in the face. I don't think doctors should say anything about weight unless it extreme in either direction.

  • I have gained about 15-18 so far (depending on the day? lol) and my OB told me now to gain more than 15 my whole pregnancy and my MW said no more than 20... I had just lost 100 lbs when I got pregnant, which was a HUGE accomplishment for me (started on Weight Watchers in January) so getting pregnant after 8.5 months of Weight Watchers was tough because I hadn't eaten a ton of crappy food that whole time. When I found out I was pregnant, in the beginning especially, that was kind of like a license to eat whatever I wanted again and I've obviously gained because of it. Also, I don't care what anyone says about "Oh you're so lucky to not be pregnant in the summer," but I think it was hardest to be pregnant over Thanksgiving & Christmas. I ate so much, it was disgusting, and half the time I didn't know if it was because of me or the baby!! After the holidays, I did reign myself back in and because of that, I lost 4 lbs between my last two appointments (which they are OK with because, like I said, they didn't want me to gain more than a certain amount anyway) and I have been holding steady for a few weeks now. I know it's inevitable that I'll gain a bit more - how could I not? But I'm hoping not TOO much more because I just want to be as healthy as possible for my daughter. It's so hard!!!

I would be ticked! There is obviously a reason you are weighed backwards and to say something is just wrong and only leads to stressing you out. I got weighed backwards the whole time with DS. I know I put on a lot. It all came off fast and I was back to a 0 fast. (without dieting) I know I have put on more with this one... Hoping this weight too goes off fast.. I am older now though. Ekk! The weight gain scares the crap out of me, but it has to be done!

  • I'm up about 20lbs at 24 weeks. This is actually less than I gained last time, but I am hoping to not give birth at 35 weeks this time, so I could see me winding up with the same end total of about 45 lbs. Yes it is too much, but I lost it all within 6 months with BFing, so I am not overly concerned.

  • I am right on track with you.  I have gained 31 pounds at 27 weeks.  I was about 20 pounds overweight to begin with, but I always have to diet to stay healthy and when I stop dieting during pregnancy, I tend to pack on the pounds quickly.  I gained 63 with my DD (Pre-eclampsia was to blame for some of that with all the fluid) and 43 pounds with DS.  I was really hoping to only gain 35 this time, but I highly doubt I will only gain 4 pounds in the next 13 weeks! I tend not to stress out about it too much because like you said, I have to worry about my weight all the time non-pregnant. I have lost every bit of my pregnancy weight in between each child and I think that is the important thing.

  • I'm about the same as you. I started at 135 and am now 163... which is how much I weighed when I went into labor with DD. I have a feeling I'll be hitting at least the 175 mark. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight/clothes only 2 weeks post-partum after DD was born. This time, I'll be happy if I can hit that target by the time my maternity leave is over!  :)

  • I'm with you! I started at 132 and i weighed myself yesterday and I weighed 161 so 30 lbs. I could have had a heart attack! I've been getting really self conscious about it all. I'm a FTM so when the Dr told me in the beginning that 30-35 was the weight we were shooting for me to gain i was shocked but said ok. Now that I have 16 more weeks and I've already gained 30 I've been a little freaked out. My mom on the other hand keeps telling me that its fine. She was about the same weight pre pregnancy with me and my brothers, who were twins and she gained 70 with each pregnancy! And was able to loose it within 8 months after we were born so i try and think about that and hope that it will be as easy for me. my Dr hasn't mentioned anything about my weight gain yet and if yours hasn't either than I think were okay. They'll let us know if we need to start worrying.

  • I weighed myself this morning and I'm up 19 pounds.  I'm 5'9" and started at 145, and this morning I was 164!  I've gained 9 pounds since my last doctor visit 4 weeks ago, and my next one is on Wednesday.  So I'm wondering if they'll say anything about me gaining 9 pounds in 4 weeks.  I haven't really exercised and I've been eating basically what I wanted, so I'm thinking I need to cut back on the junk food and start doing some exercise dvds or walking around the neighborhood.  So depressing.  I've never seen a number on the scale this high before.  sigh....

  • I swear it's genetic. I know that diet and exercise play an important role, but my cousin, who eats lots of veggies and lean meats has gained 30 pounds (due in April). I am a carboholic, and have only gained 13. As long as you're getting the nutrients the baby needs and are trying to be active, I don't think there's too much else you can do (unless you have GD, and I know that there's a whole diet that you need to stick to then.).

  • At 22 weeks I was up 24lbs. I get weighed this Thursday to see how much more I've gained.. yay!
  • I am 24 weeks and my last appt was at 22 weeks and I was up 18 lbs already ... they only wanted me to gain max 20 lbs .... he said as long as I can stay around 25-30 lbs we will be good....I hope that I am able to do that .. and I have been going to the gym this whole time ...... I am starting to really watch what I eat now and hoping not to gain alot more weight ......I also lost 50 lbs before getting pg and I put a little back on and with this weight gain I will be close to what I was ... hopefully I will be able to lose the weight quickly
  • I'm with you. I am 5'8 and was 135 lbs pre preg. At my last (24 week) appt I was already up 31 pounds and my dr only wanted me to gain 35 the entire pregnancy. I have cut out fast food for the most part and have stopped drinking gatorade and vitamin water and force myself to drink plain water now. So, I go back in a week and a half and we'll see if these changes have helped.

  • I'm up 25 lbs so far.  And really starting to feel it.  I know I need to watch it, but I just can't seem to get up the energy to work out and I have an appointment tomorrow. I'm worried they are going to say something about it.

  • This may make you feel better... I have gained 17lbs total so far and I do indoor cycling 5 days a week and eat a super healthy diet. Which means Ive been gaining about a LB every week. If I wasnt eating well and working out I am SURE I would have gained a ton more. Maybe 2-3lbs a week. Heres to my last trimester. Im sure Ill put on another 15-20lbs atleast....
