Success after IF

does pregnancy after a c section feel different?

i'm just over 4 weeks pregnant (got my BFP on Friday!) but I'm starting to feel things growing and stretching, but I'm also starting to feel a bit like i did when my c section was healing.  I was told it was the nerve endings growing back, and every now and then I'll feel something very simliar.

Is that normal?  Does pregnancy feel different the second time around after a c section?

Re: does pregnancy after a c section feel different?

  • For me, a little.  I definitely feel it around my scar a lot.  But then again, I have a ketoloid (sp?) scar and had a lot of issues with bleeding during my c/s.

I mentioned it to my OB and she said it's perfectly normal.

    Congratulations on your BFP!

  • I felt my scar a LOT.  So much that I asked the OB about it.  Her response was that when they stitch you up you form layers of scar tissue that adhere the skin to the fat, muscle and uterus.  When you become pregnant again and the uterus starts growing it literally pulls all that scar tissue apart and breaks it up.

I felt discomfort in that area until my uterus lifted up and out of the pelvic cavity and all of that scar tissue ripped free.

    Gross, huh?

    But totally normal.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

This makes so much sense...and explains why I've been so uncomfortable...that little ute is growing fast and tearing free!  :-)

ouch!  yikes...can't wait to experience that...  Wink

    Congratulations on your BFP!!

  • I definitely noticed my scar the second time around.  I also had those keloids and asked my dr about it.  She was able to incorporate my old scar into my new one so I only have one big line.. and this one healed up much better!

Woah that makes total sense!  I've been feeling my scar a lot less in the past week or so since I've officially "popped!"

  • I don't remember feeling any different until this bout of pre-term contractions came on, but I don't think it had anything to do with a previous c/s. I feel a lot of pulling/aching near my scar now, so I'm wondering if actual labor would be more uncomfortable after having one. I guess at that point, it just freakin' hurts, so maybe you don't even notice!
