Day 2 of nap training yesterday. Still much crying.
Nap # 1 - cried 15 min, slept 50
Nap # 2 - cried 10 min slept 15 then crying so ended nap
Nap #3 - failed twice, finally at 4:45 she cried 10 min then sleep 50
I feel bad because she just has a harder time getting to sleep and I don't want her to hate naps or her crib as a result. So I'm trying to do extra OK time in the crib and to put her sleep sack on outside the crib. I also try to get her pretty drowsy.
Naps continue to be a challenge. Has anyone done the SleepEasy method for napping and succeeded? First nap of the day is most difficult, others are so/so... So frustrating.
7) Progress Update/Successes
Nights are still a success... She sleeps 11hrs with one feeding which is great. Just need to iron our this nap stuff. I have anxiety just THINKING about naps. Fights going into a Sleepsack, grunts going into the crib... all that. Yuck!

2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep - 30 mins. She had a bad day yesterday, napwise, and woke up from a nap at 5:30. She was already overtired, and I didn't want to try to keep her up for 3 more hours, so we did our night routine half an hour early, but she still ended up going to sleep at her regular time.
3) Any wakeups - 3:00 & 5:30
4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding - dreamfeed at 11, regular feeds at wakeups
5) What you did to stay busy and not cry - Pinterest, Superbowl
6) Any challenges/questions/concerns - Naps still suck. She's currently going on 20 mins of crying for her first nap of the day
7) Progress Update/Successes - I've given her Tylenol before bed the past two nights because she seems to be teething again and I think her mouth is really bothering her, so I don't know if that's why she's been sleeping better through the night or if she's just starting to get the hang of this.

I'd love for him to sleep until 6:30. I can get him to go back to sleep from 5:30-6:30 with CIO or bringing him into bed, but man it would be sweet if he'd just sleep past 6am on his own. We're only on day 3 though so maybe that will come.
7) Progress Update/Successes
Huge progress during the first 3 days. I am so so soooo happy we did this.

I don't have the SleepEasy books. We're doing CIO based on what we learned on BabyCenter. (So do the bedtime routine, put them down awake, check after 5 min. and then up the length by 2 minutes for subsequent checks).
I did them for naps this weekend to be consistant. The first nap that we did it I was nervous that it would be a totally wasted nap. We didn't do full bedtime routine but we read a book and sang a song, put him down awake, and then he cried 5 minutes, I checked on him, and he only cried another 2 minutes or so.
Of the 6 naps he took over the weekend, 3 of them needed a check after 5 minutes. One of them DH just hopped in the shower after putting him down (I wasn't home) so he doesn't know how long he cried (nice huh?). The other 2 that I was home for he just talked to himself a couple minutes before falling asleep and those naps were yesterday. So it was moving in the right direction.
I just wanted to be consistent with all sleeping.

2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep 25 minutes at bedtime, then he woke up right away and cried another 45 minutes. WTF? I was really tempted to go to him. Bedtime was very tricky last night, however, because he only took 3 naps and is used to 4 (This was due to his 1 1/2 hr morning nap).
3) Any wakeups Only 1 at 2:30! He was starving so I of course fed him since it had been over 8 hours since he last ate.
5) What you did to stay busy and not cry Bumped, Watched the Superbowl, By the way, Sorry JKGymnast!
6) Any challenges/questions/concerns After only taking 3 naps yesterday he ended up being tired before 6. Do you I think 6:15 might just be too early for bedtime? Should I have tried to sneak in another nap or tried to keep him up longer? I attempted to do an extra long bedtime routine but he just got really fussy.
Having engorgement issues now which I haven't had in over a month, so I a thinking of pumping before I go to bed? Any advice there? This is a problem I am happy to have.
Also, What do I do if he starts to wake up again for the 1st feeding that he skipped last night? I was thinking to not feed him. We did extinction per our Pedi, but it just seems too cruel when he is used to sometimes eating at that time. Do you think it would be weird to start doing check ins again? We haven't again since the first night because they made it worse.
Do you ladies wake your LOs in the morning and follow naptimes by the clock or are you flexible and follow awake times?
When are you ladies going to end sleep training or does it never really end?
Sorry about all the questions!
7) Progress Update/Successes Besides for an awful bedtime it was the best night ever! He slept absolutely amazing and I did not hear one peep from him besides for when I fed him. Before I put him down this time I tried to make sure he was awake and actually waited a minute to see if he would wake up. He did open his eyes and look around so I just said "Go to sleep" and then he went right to bed. If I wouldn't have been there I bet it would have led to crying like the night before.
His first nap of the day went awesome again this morning and he has been sleeping for an hour. His naps seem to actually get harder as the days go on, which seems different for you ladies. I think maybe because I try to keep him up too long.

I re-read the nap section yesterday. I was waiting 2 hours from wake up to first nap, but she was getting tired at 1.5 hours. So I put her down earlier and that seems to help.
Also remember to keep her in the crib for 1 hour.
Oh and maybe forego the sleep sack during naps, change it up a little.
Good luck!
I use the SE method for naps. I make sure I feed DD before I put her down for the morning nap, even if it's been less than 2 hours from a feeding (I EBF). She seems to sleep much longer with a full belly. And I also made sure to wait the full hour before getting her back up- sometimes she would literally fall asleep at the 57th minute. It's so hard to hear them cry that long, I know.
Also, checking on our DD makes things worse so I only go in if she's screaming and/or after she's asleep. It sounds horrible but she just gets so worked up if she sees me or DH.
For the first fews days, I would give DD a bath before her morning nap which always tires her out. Maybe try to bathe your DD before her 1st nap to get her used to being really, really tired and putting herself to sleep? Good Luck!!!!!
Jackie... Couple things... I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a LO who takes 4 naps a day. And it's only been since we started sleep training?!? Before this, it was 3 naps a day. Weird, right? For the earlier-than-usual bedtime... I would have forced a small cat nap somewhere (maybe a car ride?) to keep consistent with your bedtime. That's what I do with Ry. Keeping them up later/longer allllllways backfires for us and I've read that makes then wake up more frequent and earlier in the morning. For pumping... She goes to bed at 7/7:15pm, and I pump before bed at 10/11 so my body thinks that's an actual feeding. I then feed her at 3/4am. You can probably take advantage of the engorgement and build up a little stash. ;-)
I do not wake Ry in the AM. She wakes up around 11 hrs after she goes to bed and I believe anywhere between 11-12 hrs is good. If she slept more than 12 hrs I might wake her up bc her naps would suffer... And naps., I follow her cues, NOT the clock.
Hope this helps a little?

Seems like some folks are having success with naps. We had two 45 min ones today. THird nap just now was a fail though no crying -- she just babbled and chewed her lovey for almost an hour. So we're playing and will try that nap again in another 30 min or so when we're more tired. She usually takes 4 naps since they are short and she's up at 6am.

We are the opposite. He used to take 4 naps a day and I don't know if it's a coincidence but since starting sleep training, we dropped his last nap of the day and have made an earlier bedtime.
He used to do a little catnap around 5:30/6pm for maybe 20-30 minutes and bedtime was around 8:30/9pm.
Now bedtime is 7:30 and we don't do that catnap.

Faupanda- I follow Eat Play Sleep, so I don't feed her before she goes down... I definitely watch for her cues (typically rubbing eyes and burying her head in my shoulder) and she doesnt ever last more than 1 hrs 40 min's. This afternoon I tried to skip the sleep sack and she cried for the entire hour. It sucked. ;(
