Dress sizing and NOVA seamstress recommendations?

DD is going to be a flower girl in my SIL's wedding.  This is likely the dress that she will be wearing:

She is currently around 30" tall but is only 18-19 lbs (will know after her appointment on Tuesday).  Her chest is 18" and her waist is 16.5".

What size do I get, and who do you recommend for alterations? The wedding is in July, but the dress is majorly on sale NOW.  She tends to only grow up, not out.

Re: Dress sizing and NOVA seamstress recommendations?

  • She is currently in 12 months? I would get a 24 month dress or 2 sizes up. Its easier to correct a dress that's too big, than one that is too small.

  • She is actuallly in 18 month and 2t shirts and 18 month pants with adjustable waists because she is all limbs. In a dress that probably won't matter as much though.

  • I would at minimum get a 2T because you are right, the length of the dress will just be a bit shorter since she has no girth to constrain the other dimensions and the dress is sleeveless so you don't have to worry about arm length.  From the picture that dress looks really long - whether it is ankle length or mid calf, it will still be perfectly adorable.

I don't know if you would need a seamstress to alter the dress.  If the bow cinches it at the waist, it should fit even if she doesn't fill out the girth of the dress.  If the bow is just for show and doesn't cinch, I'm willing to bet if you sew a thin white ribbon to each side seam, you could achieve the same effect.
